Well done, massive success once again.
Really disappointed that I couldn't make it.
But really glad the rest of you made it another VIC meet success.
Yeh Andy he got sorted and bought the part off repco and got it put back on and ended up driving it home. He said he is going to take it to the mechs and get him to look it over, so not to bad of a result considering.
Too many "e" 's there George, lol.
E's good E's good, E's Ebenezer good
Gday folks,
Cheers for a great trip. Saturday night will certainly be in the memory bank for a while and and there is now a huge incentive to head back to Toolangi. First, to drive the chicken track that the GQs went up on Saturday night:eck05: and 2nd to drive the parallel track that we considered on Sunday morning(which we didn't get to do).
Nice to meet you all again and great to see everyone's willingness to help out when GQs (and other vehicles) get stuck. I'm still not sure if Andy of course took it one step further by pulling Pickers up a track or whether pickers just saw a great opportunity to see how quick Andy was over 100 meters.
Spent bloody hours cleaning the car yesterday! 20 minutes on the paint work and about two and a half hours on the underside. I left a reconstruction of toolangi in the cleaning bay to the dismay of the poor fool that drove in after me.
Cheers again and i'll hopefully see you on the next drive.
Jonathan sent me a text message telling me just how much I missed out. That track sounds awesome, I was on Google and apparently there is a Red West Track which is just as good.
Can we go back there?
Reds West looked great as well but not quite as difficult and the chicken track looked considerably easier (but not easy).
Being you drive a gu you better make sure your winch works....
For those that think you could do this without a winch you would be nuts and to try and get someone rescued up there would be so bloody hard..
Yes I made it and so did 2 others but 2 didn't and it was a huge effort even with the right gear to get them up.
A real truck breaker.....
Very keen to go back again!
Didn't even know toolangi had those climbs, great fun!!!
The camp site was spot on too, just off the main drag and no one else can camp near you.
Small little creek like at kris's property and only 10 mins from the servo for supplies and bacon and egg rolls if you can't be bothered cooking!
Ok looks like the gu might have abit more damage than first thought .
The front spring has twisted slightly but the noise seems to be coming from the auto locking hubs and I seem to have a large clunk coming from the back now as well .
Should find out more tomorrow but might be locker damage or diff
Still all good fun this might empty the wallet though not the best when out of work
if you are in 2wd properly then there should be No Noise from the auto Hubs. If your driving around and the front Hubs have not disengaged then that will not be great and they will be noisy as your getting front wind up. Not ideal.
Go for a good drive in reverse mate. 10 or 20m and see if you can disengage them.
For the rear check under the car and see that the Swag bar links are in place and you have not broken one. You will instantly see if there is external damage. The front spring will only take you to jack the car up by the chassis to lift the front and extend the spring until it lets go then grab it with your hands and spin it back into place. It will cost you nothing and take 2 minutes.
Good luck mate
Yeh it was a great spot and those tracks were awesome. Definitely have to go back and have another play soon, once my winch is working.

Crap news Pickers. Keep us posted on how it all goes.
i left the patrol in the garage today and took the bike. In case i've done damage, this way i have another day of ignorance.
I'd be reluctant to send a truck up that track without a winch. if it got stuck, you'd have to drive a car down nose first to secure it and then there would be no room to pass once it was moving again.
Pickers also got a little sideways when he was crossing from the right track to the left tracks and I was bloody glad to get his winch hooked up so he wasnt going to have a 'lie down' on his side.
ohh and next time i might do it in daylight!
Hey pickers. After the tallarook trip, where I mashed up my crossmember, I've had a serious clunk which I thought was suspension. Funnily enough it turned out to be exhaust mount snapped, which ironically got fixed today. I hope yours is something as simple as that.
Shame about your car pickers, hopefully nothing major mate.
In all seriousness hats off mate for getting up that hill. Once you got stuck and lost momentum it's all over trying to get up but hats off for getting it up to the top.
You went hard to get momentum again which got you there otherwise it would of been a nightmare!
Especially driving a nice 2012 gu mate, a lot of people would be reluctant to do that.
That climb was pretty much the best fun I have had in years!
You want us to go there because you want to have a go.... well you should have been there on the weekend. Sook..
After simmo mate well do a day trip and pizza party time at my place I think is definitely on the cards!!!
There was another track right next to that one we didn't do on the Sunday.
I had the bent but half fixed panhard and a slave cylinder needing oil every 20 gear changes so we decided...another day!
I'm keen to go back and try it again during daylight!
Sounds like Jonathan is not man enough to give it another crack.
What was Aeroplane track like? I remember when we were there everything was so dry but that track was still a bit wet... we were saying oh shit yeah would love to come back in winter, haha.
It was fun.
Really hard to get traction, have to stay in the rut but that deep hole just before the sharp left when we were going down has been absolutely chewed out.
The pic of me in ba's photo is the spot.
Looks nothing in the photo but its impossible to get past.
You have zero traction to start off and its so deep that even hitting it flat out in second low just makes you bounce and land, literally landing on ice with no momentum, no chance.
Lokka or not, doesn't matter, nothing to grab and your tyres are just slicks anyway from the 200m of mud before.
Cheers guys for a great weekend, found some absolute crackers, some that we will definitely have to revisit. Reds east was an awesome track, one of the loosest tracks I have driven on, it was hard enough to walk on the bloody thing, let alone run up it with a winch rope!! That was definitely a highlight watching AB run in front of Pickers truck with the winch rope in the dark! Hope your truck's all good Dave. Cheers for the awesome vid Jono, bear with me and I'll get some photos up. I've got some vids of Aeroplane but will need some editing so will get them up shortly.
