will do, looking forward to getting out and flattening a few foxes
Good to see there are a few hunters on here.
Myself usual 22RF, 22 Mag, Beretta 687S.
But my favourites are a ZKW-465 Brno 22 K-Hornet custom build with Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50, Rem 700 22-250 custom build with Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50, AIA 308W M10B2 target rifle with Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50.
My new build is a Win P14 in 6.5 Epps ( 303 Brit necked down and Ackley improved with 35o shoulder angle ), Timney trigger, speed lock kit, 1:8 30" S/S Bartlien barrel, thumbhole stock , scope wise probably Vortex Razor. The list keeps going
Yes I'm into long range stuff and do most of my builds myself.
well heres my new little howa, 223 heavy barrell and bushnell trophy 6-18x50 scope, and a one of my adler a110 and my latest handy work doing a paracord wrap on the lever. hopefully get out soon and start flattening some foxes

What you like to know Sooty.
I have found the Vortex Viper Pst's to be excellent scopes. Comparing them to the Razor, NF, Doctor etc the colour rendition isn't quite there but good enough I'm not using them to take photo's with. The old man has found the same and is running PST's on his 22 hornet and 20PPC rifles.
The stock on the 465 is a Jeff Slee Walnut XXX grade thumbhole that I did the finishing in Tru-Oil also pillars installed and bedded. Barrel wise blued Tobler 22" 1:14 twist and using 13gr of Hodgdon's Lil-Gun and 36gr Barnes varmint grenades, velocity wise doing doing 3150fps.
The 250 is laminated thumbhole made by one of the benchrest boys at Little River again same as the 465. Barrel S/S 26" TSE fluted just slightly heavier than the Rem varmint profile 1:12 twist. About to try Hodgdon's CFE-223 powder running 55gr Nosler ballistic tips.
The 6.5 Epps will be a monster 30" Bartlien barrel not sure what the profile number is straight taper down from the breach to the muzzle and the muzzle is 1.5" dia with a 1:8 twist to run 140gr Bergers or Hornady AMAX's. The action is a Win P14 ( or Enfield P14 ) it is the only action besides a Ruger No1 ( they did make them in 303 for a short time ) that will handle the pressure's I want to run to get the full benifet. Everything pretty much is custom even the pic rail I have to mill up to fit. The stock is a Richards Microfits from the US of A laminated thumbhole 3" wide for end which I will send to the stock maker to use as a pattern to make one out of walnut or tasy blackwood. The reamer is on its way from US of A and should be here shortly then the fun begins and also have to make my own dies as well.
@Snafu thanks for that. No shortage of info there. I have heard good things about vortex vipers. I have an illuminated crossfire, not the greatest with the illumination on as it can glare a bit but for the price of it and its just on a bunny gun 22lr works well. I wouldn't mind trying to stretch out my .270win past 500m, and eventually get a more suitable long range rifle setup so it's good to see what others use. At the moment the main limiting factor for me is my rangefinder struggles above 650-700m and the hunting ballistic turret on the scope I have only has suitable adjustments for up to around 500m, but I am dropping roos consistently up to and just over that off the bipod.

The 270 Win is a good allrounder like the 2506, if the turrets only goto around 500m and you need to go further look into a 20MOA base. Another reason I like the PST's is the " ballistic reticle " hash marks every 1 MOA make hold offs easier and ranging ( if you know the size of the target ). But I prefer to dial for elevation but hold for wind as wind is a constantly changing.
The 6.5 Epps is being built for 1000y +, hopefully get the 140's running around 3200 fps maybe a bit more and with the BC's of the 140's at these speeds it will shoot flatter than a 300WM.
What scope you got on the 270Win ?
What I do is get the muzzle velocity using a Magneto Speed and the bullet's BC and run it through ballistic software. This give's me a head start on the ballistics then I head out with some bis 500 plate and do ballistic verification then I know the actual drops at varies ranges and make a note of.
@Snafu I have a meopta meostar 3-12x56 w/ the meopta hunting turret added on. I currently have a basic chrono for measuring my velocities and use a few ballistics apps to verify against real ranges. Will get a bis 500 target soon for the long target shots. Yeah I hold for wind but only have a basic reticle so limited there as well. This rifle is really my all rounder used for varmints -> deer. Would like a more suitable long range hunting rifle and scope set up one day. I currently run vmax 110's @ 3300fps for light duties and I am working up a 150gn load for deer (previously used 130gn factory SP)
