I remember 1d bought one and I really liked the look of them, so I've had saved in my eBay for ages and ages.

You will have it for years, do you know what steel its made from
maybe its 440 stainless , still OK to hold an edge
Doesn't say much in the description except that it stainless steel.
That bumblebee knife gonna hurt on the way in.
Hurt a little more on the way out.
yeah did have a desert camo handle but I didnt like it
I think its looks better in yellow,
Like OD I have way too many knives, other than the ones Ive made
I think the Gil Hibben tooth pick is my favourite one, just feels right
Toothpick is on the right, both are Gil hibben
That is a great little set and should serve you pretty well. It is light weight but sturdy. The 9" knife is the fixed blade from tip to tip and the folder goes in the pouch at the front with the torch in an elastic piece on the side, it is a bit tight for the torch but shouldn't lose it.
From memory they are 440 SS and hold an edge reasonably well for a low cost set. As I have mentioned before, the more expensive doesn't always mean the best when it comes to knives. Some of the cheaper ones I have bought are heaps better than the more expensive variants.
@ Mego my two hand made fillet knives you would like .
Called big lake fillet knives, one I put bone scales and scrimshawed
my mates initials on it, the othe I put a better gripping scales.
Thinking once you get all the material this style fillet knife is about $70 RRP
I filleted a 4kg schnapper a few weeks back with one, awesome knife very flexible
and 440 ss its also double edged about 7" blade.
Damn you Mego I had to go and buy a Winchester Bowie.
This is my 2nd I sold the first, but I'll use this one and display my other Bowie knives
I have 1 of the Winchester Bowie knives as well, haven't got around to using it yet but it is comfortable and reasonably well balanced.
Yet again, another knife let down by nylon sheath. Another 1 to add to the list of sheathes to be replaced :)
was thinking that instead of doing the Schrade bowie, can you do the Winchester
as I think its a better all round camp knife,
If you have already started the other forget what I just said
Heres a great idea for that sheath, go crazy with that, stamp the stick on panel
.http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Colt-Kniv...item2a50dbf334
Haven't started it yet. Will do both of ours at the same time when my body feels like playing with me and not against me lololol.
I hear you I think the Winchester would look better than the Schrade.
Getting my Kurkri friday I think,
plus getting some thin leaf springs to make a camp machete.
As you said when the body wants to play I should start or at least finish some
knives, I cant sit and twist its ridiculas
Whats a decent sharpener for my kitchen knives guys? Getting sick of using the stone in the garage. Gotta be something better...
Just use your patrol mudski. You'll have the sharpest knives and windows
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zleVA9yxdm8
The patrol wont fit in the kitchen though.
Great steel from IKEA.... Use it often and only needs a few passes each time.
The window is good but as the bloke says, really only for honing.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
A decent steel wont break the bank. I use a Mundial steel and another 459mm number
I good brand thats affordable would be F,Dick, They make great gear,
Link is the one I use and cant fault it

I still have a couple of the ol man's steels, from when he was in the freezing works, including one that has been used so much, it's as smooth as a baby's butt! Damn fine steel though.
Have you seen the prices old vintage steels pull its ridiculas
I do like those oval steels
Oh Shite! I've thrown out about 4 of the old man's steels over the years because he had so many...
I've seen some go as high as $500, that would fund your knife fetish for a few days LOL
Yeah they pull big bucks
All I use for our kitchen knives are diamond sharpeners and finish off with a ceramic set. I use the same for almost all my knives, some are too big to use so I go back to my dad's and grand dads oil stone block. Still need to make a strop and decent stropping block for them. These are the main 2 I use. Black is a Gerber Field diamond set with bot fine and coarse diamond rods, 2nd is a generic ceramic rod to finish off the edges. Always come back super sharp and almost always touch them up after being cleaned before putting them away.

For some kitchen knive I have one that uses a suction cup and you drag the knife through it
but my butchers knives i have an Arkansas whet stone ans a small piece of jade, then strop
them and put them in a carry pouch, very very sharp.
@ Mark bring them around one day I'll touch them up for you
My Winchester bowie arrived today, just a knife IMO nothing fancy about it.
Again why would you put a Bowie in a nylon sheath is beyond me,[price]
It just looks and feels all wrong. may make this my camp knife save ruining my others
about 14.5" AO
I forgot all about this little fella that was sent to me awhile ago. A Robert Klaas upswept skinner.
A nice, light but sturdy full tang knife and pretty sharp out of the box. Only downside is the handle is a wee bit small, even for me and I have fairly small hands compared to average.

Looks like a Schrade Sharp finger design.
would make a great little skinner,
Dont tell me it has a Leather sheath???
you might like this baby

Surprisingly it does have a leather sheath, not the best finish but still leather.
I have had my eye of the smachete for a while now, need to find more reviews on it as I am not convinced yet that it is worth me getting one.
Time will tell :)
Go on you know you want too.lol
The Aus guy selling his survival knives[machette] looks exactely the same
but he's asking $400 a piece very similar design
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...015/05/230.jpg
These finally arrived today.
Love the folding knife.
The bigger I like the butt of the handle.
The mini torch is shit. Lol
The sheath isn't the best either.
I swapped the torch out on my set to a different style of led torch. The sheath wasn't to bad on the set I received, I guess like a lot of things, will vary from piece to piece. I haven't thought about making a new sheath for my set yet, might look at it later down the track. May even look at trying my hand at using kydex, downside is it isn't cheap to buy for what you get. Basically $20+ per A4 sheet depending on thickness.
Yeah the torch, I think I'll change too.
Just wonder how long the sheath will stay together with the big blade in and out.
I think I swapped mine to a small led lenser torch. Haven't had a chance to use mine yet, interesting to see how it goes.
OD thought about a small vacuum former.
I used to use the Qantas one ,,but no mates there anymore.[hand shake]
@ Mego plety of small powerfull LED torches out there.
Never heard or seen a vacuum former before. Will do some hunting around and see what I can find. I need to make up some frames for wet moulding when I am able to.
Vac former is a handy but of kit and an easy diy project.
Makes using that plastic stuff easy as.
You'll need timber to make a box and some of the mdf shadow board stuff with all the holes in it.
A jig to hold the plastic sheet to be formed.
A vacuum cleaner and an oven.
Very simple. Father Inlaw has one for pulling moulds of canopies, cowls and bits and pieces.
Great bit of kit.
X2 with what Kallen says you make a wooden sheath to size then select what thickness material you want to use.
It heats up the plastic and sucks it down on your sheath form, trim it up with a stanley knife voila lol
better suited to tanto and ABS type sheaths, rivet two halves together
Sweet, will have a look around. All the tutorials I have read up on use just a heat gun which I have. Haven't seen any with a mould, was all pre-cut oversized and then shrunk to size, holes punched and riveted.
we just put a block say 300 x 300 by 25mm and formed some 3mm plastic on that.
trim it up cut it in half and you have two matching door pockets with a flange/lip to secure it
I think you need special plastic , another example was I supplied say a 100mm round disc 100 high
there a ready made speaker mount lol you getting what I mean.?
As long as you have an accurate form/block the plastic will melt and form to suit
Bit the bullet and bought a 17" Kukri knife with buff leather sheath and the two smaller knives.
This is one serious piece of kit as you know OD
That they are. Yet to get myself a set but Dad got a set well before I was born and still has it now. I don't know the story behind how he got it, I "think" he got it after doing an exercise with the Ghurkas.
Had a look at the former, to much messing around for me and pricey. Will stick to the heat gun when I start.
I need a few other bits and bobs that are pricey and being shy of coin doesn't help
