What did you do to your Patrol today!

ok got the patrol back, drives like a dream now and no more pulling to the left when on a flat road, the suspension guy did say easy cheap fix is a rtc steering damper if i didnt want to spend the coin but i told them to go ahead and do the offset swivel hub bearings, much better now.

The nissan engineers designed the front suspension to a specific ride height and amount of travel. There was no regard for the consumer to install suspension lifts, get more articulation, different offset rims etc. It was designed with small tolerances, which really isnt good, but for standard form it functions as it should and quite well.

Suspension is about comprimise. A change in geometry (ie lift kit) can effect other characteristics. In a setup like the patrol with its low margin of error design Something like a basic 2 inch lift can upset things. This is why there are what seems to be many causes for the death wobbles.

but it seems you dont have to have a lift kit to get the wobbles either but it will be more likely to get them with the lift kit :)

Put in a volt meter to keep an eye on the aux battery and spent most of the day replacing the actuator and fine tuning the dawes and needle valves after the change.

Decided to change all brake pads before Easter Southern Flinders trip.


Interestingly, I found that these Bendix aftermarket pads contain less friction material compared to genuine Nissan pads.

Genuine pads front 12 mm aftermarket 9-10 mm, rear 10 mm aftermarket 8 mm.

Makes me wonder what is going on.
Well time will tell if it was the good decision to go with these fancy Bendix hybrid pads. They certainly have less "meat" on them than genuine Nissan ones.
