this shop has some nice blanks
My Schrade 180 Bowie arrived very nice has the Delrin scales, but let down I think by the nylon sheath.
The seller know I make knives so sent two highly grained rock/stone of some description,
I dont think its the stuff you chip the edge off to shape, but nice patterns on both, will need to research a bit more.
I'll post over all that other gear tomorrow. will you need the bowie sheath to go but?
I have a knife that will suit that sheath so it wont be wasted.
Stats are 10.5" blade nice feel and size for around camp or hunting can see this knife going places. lol
Ill get a close up of the stones that pic is shite
If you would like a leather sheath for the 180 then I would need the sheath to trace and make up a template or mid you can trace it and email it to me instead?
Nice looking knives.
Putting the lining in the scabbard is becoming a bit of a pain, parts stick where others aren't.
Have a guy coming around today to price up another scabbard for a 12g after seeing some progress pics of the other scabbard
I've always said if the quality is there one will buy two.
hope that goes for my products too, My theory was if I wasnt happy
putting it on my 4x4 why the hell would I want to put it on some elses.
Found another double I'll send over SS army knife with the marlin spike
top one .....I find it very handy splicing heavier rope.
I'll send the sheath over and I'll put a pre paid satchel in it as well
Heres those stone bits the seller sent me ???????????
only about 3" x 2"
Hey guys, have some nice knifes in this forum. I figured an all round knife would be good to have for camping and the big lap. Think of something for fishing, meat and maybe if I get into hunting. Can anybody advise a good knife for around 30 bucks that would do the job and survive some camping abuse? I am also looking for an axe for some firewood chopping (and potential zombie attacks). Any recommendations would be appreciated!
IMO you cant beat a Fiskar X27 for splitting wood,
As for an all rounder thats a can of worms, Columbia make
a good knife in your price range, go back a few posts and you'll see my stone washed tanto and field axe.
thats one combo I'll take the next is my schrade uncle henry plus the Schrade bowie.
Go back and see if any knife suits your fancy and either OD, GKO or myself will be able to tell you price etc chances are we have it in our collection
If you want an all round knife, you will need to look at a full tang knife as they stronger and more durable.
There are tons on flea bay that you get delivered for less than $30 but whether it is suitable for you only you can answer.
Some good examples are Winchester, M-Tech, Elk Ridge, Colombia / Sanjia (not CRKT) to name a few.
I have all the above brands plus many others as well.
Have a look through this thread and flea bay and post up the links and we can certainly let you know about them.
Also , do not discount the X-Tactical brand knives from Anaconda, they do bring out some good all purpose knives.
1 of my favourites is an X-Tactical field knife on special I got for $35 (normally $100) that permanently stays in the drawers of my troll and goes everywhere. Have even tweaked the sheath to hold a decent sharpening stone, small led torch, flint stick with striker and button compass, a Buck Bantam Stealth pocket knife, leg strap and approximately 30ft of 550 paracord and small signal mirror. This knife is able to do almost anything except use as a paddle lol.
Might want to look at the range of multi tools that are available.
For a GP you could get your self a 5" folder with a 4" blade.
Schrade have a beauty with bone scales, combine that with a cross draw sheath
and its out of the way
@ OD would my cross draw sheath be able to be stained the antique colour or is it too late
Can give it a go but I think it won't take very well as the leather has been sealed / polished but can try.
Won't be able to do the leather inside of the sheath though, only the opening.
Another super happy customer has just collected his rifle scabbard, great start to the day.
'On ya mate! What was there not to like tho? That scabbard rocked!.
Working on a tool belt and pouches at the moment, still waiting on a large product order I made last week and still not here.....grrrrr
How much work is involved in making GQ steering wheel covers? And how much would they be?
Yes, I saw your post. I like the looks of the buckle. Reminds me of my old duty belt.
Lol, I don't plan on making any helwig gear. Still have most of my old duty gear as well lol
Dunno. Will have to measure them up.
Hey guys been a while lol! Had to stay away otherwise I would've got into lots of trouble haha!! Anyway I think I'll reward myself with either one of these or both lol but I cant decide.... Attachment 52351Attachment 52352 what you guys rekon ???
That CS 1 is very nice. I have the M1 or M4 (never remember which) of that AK47 bayonet, very similar but found it a lot nicer. Got mine from Global Gear for $55 delivered new and is super sharp.
Will throw up a pic of the latest hunter / skinner I bought last week and waiting on being delivered
If all goes well, job-wise, this may be my new aquisition....

Nooooiiiiiccccceeer
@OD... remember that knife I missed out on? I didn't the 2nd time.
It seems anaconda isnt selling the X-Tactical anymore. But I found these two knives, the handles look cheap so I am unsure if they are very durable but maybe somebody has an opinion :).

The local Anaconda near us still sell the XTactical gear as it is owned by Anaconda.
1st knife "appears" OK but crap sheath and crap serrations on the back.
The 2nd is utter rubbish, I bought 1 and it is flimsy, handle hilt breaks apart and only good for show, not a practical knife to use in general.
Gecko - you bastardo on getting that knife
Just a bit of a hijack here.....
What are peoples thoughts on the bear grylls branded Gerber knives? Some of the larger fixed blade ones look pretty cool....
I know nothing
It does depend on the knife. Everyone knows I think Grylls is a knob BUT some of his signature knives aren't too bad.
They are all made by Fiskars / Gerber anyway.
His fixed blade "Ultimate" survival knife comes in different versions and are about 10-15% smaller than Gerber's LMF series and almost identical. They have a straight edge and straight / serrated edge versions (I have 1 of the latter) that can cut, chop, skin, strapped as a spear head, hammer and include a crap sharpening stone, flint stick and multi positional sheath which is actually pretty good.
Only thing it is a slightly thinner and shorter full tang blade and no glass breaker. It is also a bit cheaper than the LMF series as well.
As most would know that orange is the international distress colour which is why it was adopted by Grylls.
I also have Gerber's LMF 11 version which is far superior and also my preferred knife of choice for everything except using it as a paddle. Yes it does cost a bit more but you do get a better knife and also a strap cutter. This knife is now the chosen issued knife of the Australian SAS apart from those who choose to spend $340US on the Trakker knife (awesome bit of kit).
Some of the smaller Grylls knives are "OK" for most peoples needs.
What parts are you concerned about Tas?
Just wondering really. I got a tiny bear grylls branded (Gerber) pocket knife a while back and although it had a really nice edge, I chipped it so I guessed that Gerber may have sold out and started producing lower quality just because they could sell them with bears name.
Been getting a bit if junk mail with a range of the bigger bear grylls knives so I wondered if they were of the same quality. That LMF 11 sounds like the go though, cheers
Does any one have any recommendations for a good all round knife that will be good for the 4wd, camping and fishing?
Look at this infantry LMF2 that's a half decent gerber, the grylls are a copy not of the same standard

Damn forum runner not showing pic Wah!
There is pic earlier in the thread I posted of both the LMF II and the grylls versiom side by side
Growler summed it up in an earlier post... Bear Grylls knives are cr@p copies... Get the real Gerber knives.
Both OD and myself have several Gerber's and the only damage I've done was to take the tip off of my boot dagger. Did it by being a dumb sh!te. (it's a US$250 knife!)
I have carried a Gerber multitool for over 20 years and the only problem I had was chipping the pliers jaws, trying to cut a car ariel (again, stupid). Gerber replaced it, no questions asked.
Apart from Cold Steel, Gerber would have to be my favourite brand of Knifemaker.
A mate of mine has a gryls survival knife he uses when he goes away camping, it came with a leg stral that has a sharpening steel on the back that you flip down which makes that particular blade very sharp but it takes a bit of meat off the blade but he's not worried coz uts a crap knife that looses its edge quickly but it suits him coz of the leg strap and a good clip that he likes coz it hold the knife in its sheath whike he's riding his dirt bike thru the high country
Hey George, did you end up getting that Cold Steel knife?
