This made me smile. Like it on a number of different levels. The old fella is a caretaker on a Station north west of Broken Hill.

"Had to go an hour and a half to the Highway to meet the truck to pick up a tyre for the Grader . Had to take food and water as it is an isolated road and for the last 3 months only the postman comes up it every tuesday . he did not make it a couple of weeks because of the flood , which filled the lake after many years of Drought".

They take it to the next level over there. We have nothing anywhere near that here in Aus. Our average towers are 50-60m from deck to the top ground wire. Tallest ones are next to the Bolte bridge, I "think" they're 90-100m....
Recent work. Lattice to mono pole conversion for the tunnel project. 60m monopoles.

I drove past those poles when the daughter was in Geelong, they certainly are monsters. Why are they converting them - are they in the way of the roadworks, or is it a capacity issue?

They're mainly for road widening reasons. And apparently "cosmetic" reasons. Imo they look butt ugly. I prefer the lattice construction. Easier to climb.
