Went up to the local for a quick overnighter last night, was good even if it starting raining as soon as I got in my swag lol
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...2019/09/76.jpg
The last two bits for my highmount turned up, now has air freespool so whacked it all together
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...2019/09/77.jpg
Then cut the grill to suit and modified the bullbar to suit the +76 drum
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...2019/09/78.jpg
Fitted it up to the car to see whether I’d cut enough
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...2019/09/79.jpg
Then fitted the rope off my lowmount and a cheap fairlead I bought to test it out, just need to tidy up all the wiring and do some minor welding on the bullbar, this bar is definitely not designed to take a larger winch!
Bloody Awesome Dave!!
Please be sure to install that air spool line clip on the HM plate side as close as possible, especially when new they rotate very hard well sealed once found:-(

Back up top to the good old shed queen now Dave mate! Hope this picture makes sense?

Typical bloke style me when installed the oldish UK-Delta +76 too, she’ll be a rats twisted nest soon MB enough:-)

Thanks for that mate, I’ll have a look when I run the air line, I’ve only just fitted the line as I couldn’t access the end of the drum in the bar
You’re onto a winner mate, you’re gonna love it [emoji106]
Don’t forget as before to get your fittest littlens, or their 50cc quadies to run half a dozen test spools in/out before departure.
Frees the new spool up perfectly so it’ll work like it’s meant to under easy climbing chicken legs of mine kneecap duress:-) [emoji106][emoji106]

Added some push buttons on the grill so I can use the winch while outside the car as I have incab switches. Then repurposed some U bolts to use as winch horns.
The bars coming back off tomorrow to get welded up then I can do all the final wiring and fitting and spool some rope on under tension!
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...019/09/129.jpg
Welded in the winch horns, removed my light bar and I’ll get a smaller one to mount under the hoop, fitted the winch up and wired it in completely, plumbed up my air free spool.

And here’s a view from the drivers seat!
Absolutely gotta love GQ flat center dash space, shit hot tops Dave mate [emoji106][emoji106]
If time permits, die grind a wider/higher fairlead space to allow a ‘Big-Mouth’ type fairlead to forgive a figure 8 emergency knot to pass through they say :-) [emoji106][emoji106]

Depending on usage Dave mate, might be advisable to keep fairlead’s replaceablish if that’s such a half dwucken word?

Looking good mate. Nice work. With the grill switches, I run them on the passenger side as chances are it is the Navi operating them most of the time and saves them standing right in front of you and obstructing your view. You will find most comp cars run them on the left side too to be honest. They will work fine where they are though.
Can highly recommend adding an LED marker light either hanging under the winch motor or the back of the bar facing back to the winch drum makes seeing the winch at night bloody awesome. I wired it through the winch isolator so it is a double check when I want to make sure do have power to the winch.
Mine did not come with this little clip. It IS REQUIRED! It make something that does this job. If you don't have it the line with spin uncontrollable and self destruct first time. 8 fashioned up something and used zip ties to hold it in position. Doesn't need much but it needs something
Also note, when using your air freespool . You need the navi to give the rope a tug after you re-engage the rope to lock it back in before you press line in.
Thanks for the advice, might see how I go with the switches before moving them.
Hey Darren, I have been thinking about these switches and their location for a couple of days and what troubles me is the location is within what is called the 'line of fire'. The recoil direction is going to head straight back to the anchor point, so understanding the drivers field of view issue, but moving them to the passenger side still retains the hazard. For this reason, I have a cable pendent control with 6m of lead. I know its not as self contained or convenient, but it sure removes the winch operator from the immediate recoil zone, regardless of whether a winch blanket is in use or not. I further understand its impossible to monitor the cable or rope wrap from 6 m away, behind a bar, and this does require frequent 'stop and check actions'. Just a comment, and appreciate they may be in use in comp trucks, but does not mean the risk is reduced or removed. For me, I would not have the switches mounted where they are so close to the winch. Comments welcome of course.
I believe it’s more for just ease of spool housekeeping Phil mate. All the heavy work is usually done through in cab switches.

Peebee, I fitted the switches so I could spool the rope in by myself. When I bought the winch it came without a hand controller, I have wired switches inside the cab next to the steering wheel but needed something to be able to stop constantly walking back and forth from winch to switches to check how much is left etc.
I have no intention of using the switches under load from the outside of the vehicle.
Thanks Dave, appreciate the reply. This 'line of fire' is front and centre with our execution tasks at the mine as two injuries of late from simply operating equipment from what initially looked like a safe position, then finding it the operators were in fact in a hazardous location. One involved a crane lift with a bore pump and the clamp plate slipped. This sent the 400kg pump rocketing to the ground. This is the second incident of the type. The work crews do it frequently, and they were lucky this time to have taken learnings from the previous mishap and had everyone in the crew out of the reaction path.
Love the installation works you have completed so far also, thanks for sharing.
I've got mine on the drivers side and find most the time it's me using them so all good. Definatly one of if the most handy little mods done 4 sure. Also another good little mod is to run some led strip under the bar which gets power when the winch isolator is on . . . May have stole that idea off Daz [emoji6] . .

Bahaha. Yeah it's huge. I just trolled back through 20 pages back to post 1000!! Which lead me back to this quote from page 2!! Post 44 of my thread!

See on the back of the numberplate i have fitted a white LED marker light that is switched with the winch isolation switch in the dash and lights up the winch whenever power is connected to it. F*#king awesome at night for winching.

Don't know why but pics are a bit weird from other threads mostly of Kings control box when I look at it. Might be tapatalk having a bit of a hissy fit lol does some random things sometimes. .

That was bizarre!! So zooming in it was actually a pic of @MB s Trailer solenoid that he fitted the warn remote too. I have no idea how that imported to my quote. Strange. I have fixed it. Sorry Dave, nothing to see here mate.
@AB mate those photos keep resetting back to the pics from MB?? very very strange. i have swapped them 4 times. I took a screen shot of the pic Code if your interested.
So those are very old photos of my front setup. I still run the Marker light at that location and it works great. Back in the day though you couple not buy LED Strip lighting. You could simply glue strip lighting under the motor near the earth bolt facing down. Simple and easy. wire it to the winch isolator so it is always on when the winch has power.
Crikey, deepest apologies Dave mate!
Was only one Russian video virus I do swear :-)
Anyways, back to your truck good bloke [emoji106][emoji106]

@AB mate there is something going on with that post above. I have swapped out those photos 7 or 8 times and they keep coming back. No idea what is going on there mate??? Can you have a look please mate.
@AB . BHAHAHAHAHAH!!! Bloody Hell! Mate Post 44 in my Build Thread and photos 5, 6 and 7 please. WTF is that! Got Nuff'n

Fitted new lights over the long weekend, got rid of the cheap 4wd supacentre ones on the roof and bullbar and replaced them with lights from Stedi, 11.5” light under the top hoop of the bullbar and 32” on the roof. These lights are so much brighter (the one on the bullbar puts out as much light as the 30” I used to have on my roof)

On Sunday went to Mt Disappointment with my son in his 2.8 and a mate in his ZD30 GU, drove straight to the ladder and aired down.

Less than 5 minutes later I was hanging off the end of my winch rope lol, freespool is amazing and makes a solo winch on flat ground so easy. Then turned around to winch my son out, the GU wanted to use his winch so he came after us and winched out.
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...2019/10/13.jpg
Then we drove up to the rocky rutted section, got out to have a look and make an assessment to the best way up.
We all got up to the top, I drove straight up, my son had to back up and give it a few goes and the GU straight up. But.....
Started hearing a really bad scrape out of the GU, nursed it to a camping area that ended up being packed so started the climb out over the ridge line. Boost had dropped away completely and EGTs were skyrocketing. So put a strap on and I towed it up to the main road where we had lunch waiting for a tow truck, 3 hours later the big GU was on a tow truck.
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...2019/10/14.jpg
My son and I did a few more tracks and then headed home.
Went and had a look at the GU last night, pulled the intake off and the turbo cartridge is just about non existent, mates buying a new turbo and I’ll fit that up and then hit the tracks again!!
Looking good mate. Those big holes look hideous. Nothing worse than sitting in that I reckon. Can almost see the $$$$ floating away!! Old mate in the GU is testament to that. 4 or 5 Alternators and 3 starter motors later and I am fully over that little activity. Lol not withstanding stripping the inside out to dry out. Lol.
Didnyoy find those pics in My thread mate. Tried hard to embed them here for you mate, sorry.
