meh its ok, im not holding my breath mate. dad checked the motor out last night he was really surprised, no oil leaks, everything looks OK, its just been sitting out in the weather so has abit of corrosion on it. I dont know how long this motor will last, but hopefully it will give me the time to save up for a td42 conversion. on the other hand, i might be lucky and it lasts.
as for the compression tester, thats ok mate, dad has one so i should be right cheers mate appreciate the offer
I should have put "LOL" at the end of my comment as it may have been taken the wrong way.... oh the good ol LOL...
Your dads compression tester is a diesel one is it?
its never too late to press that edit button bud... LOL
i know he has petrol but dunno about a diesel one. ill ask him today at some point and well go from there cheers matey
Wow, what a read, pretty much a similar Patrol to what I'm looking for without the engine problem, I was like yay at the start of the thread to oh no by the middle and end, what amazed me was the support you have from forum members which fills me with a bit of confidence and the help that's been offered. Still worried tho buying a patrol because of this engine problems but it is the vehicle I'm after(if only it didn have the dam engine detonation thing), I really hope it works out for you and all goes well with you back on the road soon, look forward to reading more of this thread in future, good luck.
How is the new engine transplant going mate ???
good luck with it mate, you deserve a break.
Nice ride mate, you have a few mods I have been dreaming of for ages!
Nic and Rod
Would mind catching up to say hi..... maybe over the next few weekends.... What do ya think ???
Mate, I would love to catch up, I'm always keen to meet more Sydney people. I'm not really sure on my movements over the next few weeks though as this weekend I'm towing my car up to Uralla to get it fixed with a trusted mechanic. I might be picking it up the following week or the week after but who knows? I'll keep you posted though.
Uralla, wow thats a long way.... Mate if you need anything let me know..... or a chat over a beer..... Is the Patrol still down at the wonnie???
sure is. but the old man knows best, im old enough to know to listen to my elders. ashamedly hes towing it up with my uncles 200 series land cruiser.
i appreciate the offer mate, more than happy to catch up for a beer when ever you like, i finish work every arvo at 3, dunno what you schedule is like but well tee something up/
Good luck Nic, hope it goes well bud.
Good luck with it Nic, u know the offer is there if needed.
P.S: Where's my computer, movie, illegal pirated movies thread??? I've been searching all afternoon for it!
All the best Nic, here's to getting that wheezing 4 potter back on the road sooner rather than later :driving2:
so i finally got the motor and car to a mechanic on friday. for any of those mechanically minded out there, is there anything that i should get him to do to the replacement motor before it goes in? hes already said he will do the rear main seal before putting it in but yeah can anyone else suggest anything else?
Clutch?......
Within your affordability anything that's a pain when the engine is installed. Water pump, tensioner, belt check fan condition just things like that.
Yes yes yes tensioner bearing could be changed if dicky or if the rest is suss
put a newy on if you can
OK thanks guys I'll swing by the bloke and just let him know to do those things. I know he said water pump is OK. I already have the nads in Roofy got all the gear off mudski. But the tensioner and other things that are a pain to get to are a good idea.
Sh1t Hot mate, I'm excited for it to be getting back on the tracks mate
another update. the new mechanic i have taken the car to says i should get the motor re-coed before i put it in. so ive given him the go ahead to send it off to someone who does it(he doesnt). im still keeping my fingers crossed for the oz day meetup but im not holding my breath.
so his words were because i paid so little for it, and because of the exterior condition of the motor (poorly weathered, most of the holes etc not sealed, mud in places) he says he could put it in but there are no guarantees that the motor is gonna work after the install, and could end up costing me more money. i kind of agree with him, reco the motor, get it done properly the first time, NADS it straight away, and i should have a nice reliable car. as a rough timeframe, im seeing late feb as a completion date, being so close to christmas and all. although i could be wrong and the turn around time could be quicker than i think.
YOu will be on a bloody winner then bud, drive with confidence.
