The tedius wiring jobs continue.
Pyro, water and cluster back in finally. 11hrs today. Hopefully finish it off tomorrow.
Fuel changover solonoid fucked up already and almost burnt the car down. Just picked up a long range single tank. Should have done it to start with.
How did it nearly burn the car down
Took it for a cheeky squirt half together. Jesus. I think I went too far. Video to follow.
Solonoid changed tank but wouldn't change back so was keeping the solonoid powered while it tried creating huge draw and smoking 4mm wires.
Its all torn out now and 146l LRA tank is sitting in its new home. Should have done it to start with.
Video is private
Should be fixed.
Ahh it just gets better and better :) :) :).
Exhaust Monday then some much needed seat time! Boyaaa
Drive it up here for its run in :p
Haha would be awesome.
The w2a is definitely working now. Drove it no pump no fan egts were 400 ish giving it some.
Changed piping route and bled it all properly, pump only (no fan) same conditions if not giving it more. Struggled to get past 300 degrees.
Fingers crossed it will do the job alright. Time will tell. Must say it was a pain in the backside to bleed it all properly.
Stuffed up today trying to use the vac pump return as catch can return. Came on boost and sucked in a gut full of oil. Fingers crossed all is good. Intercooler is draining over night. Still runs and sounds fine till on boost (was sucking oil from intercooler). Fingers crossed its all good.
Blocked the drain. Kinda getting over the vehicle.
Conversion is complete. Cars all sorted. Exhaust and drive off into the sunset.
Well its done about 1000ks so dropped the oil and new filters along with a new fan and fan clutch as it was running close to 100 degrees on the weekend. Loaded up car, towing a tonne and an ambient of 28ish. Doing 110 it sat just shy of 100 degrees.
Figuring not once did I hear the fan, nor have I heard it roar on cold start for a loooooong time, id bang one on it. It now roars on cold start which is a good sign. The weekend/week away will be the telling point.
Doesnt go over 82 degrees around town.
Sounds fantastic! Progress St, Doveton by chance?
Haha yeh. Everyone knows where it is. I work on Progress Street.
very nice rig mate
Did about 1500ks on the weekend in it. Few bugs.
Just changed the front turbo housing and sorted the wastegate actuator, now I can actually control my boost im happy. Needs a bit of a clean up off boost fueling but hopefully a minor tweak will fix that.
Need to kit my powersteering pump and fit a second battery.
Still got to get to vicroads. Bit worried about if it will be as easy as a number change or they will be upset with my engine bay. Bit nervous.
First day out bush in it, goes great. Runs sweet and the sound is enough to make anyone smile.
Thought Toolangi would just be a dustbowl, how wrong was I.
Has a patrolapart hi flow water pump in it which seems to have helped substantially.
This week has been expensive. Front LOKKA ordered and picked up a second hand front centre so I can build it and just whack it in. Ordered a shim for the LSD so ill shim that up too.
Today I picked up a 105 amp hour AGM battery for the back and a red arc DC/DC charger to ensure the deep cycle is getting charged correctly. Only down side to that setup is I can not push button jump start from the aux battery but I would rather a fully charged aux battery.
So when are you bring it to the sunshine state :)
When I do my cape trip in there ;)
Top post Dale.
I pick up my TD42 Sunday... lol its going to be a little bit of a process I recon, but I will just take my time and ask lots of questions I guess..
Thanks for this thread though, im sure it will come in very handy over the course of the following months ! :)
Still shitting me running down the highway. Its better with the highflow pump, but it still heats up to 90ish before the an howls and it comes back down.
But under very little load I still dont like it so I am going to throw a radiator at it just to be certain.
Was going to get a genuine plastic/alloy as they seem to get a good wrap. But patrolapart wont have stock until after chrissy which is too late as summer is coming quickly.
Priced a full alloy PWR radiator today as I think I am going to go that way. My intercooler from them seems to do the trick. Most likely order it this arvo. Anyone had experience?
Can always get a new copper/brass but they want to use my tanks which I dont want to. Plus in my research a good alloy should be more efficient at dispersing heat than the copper/brass.
What thermostat are you running?
90degrees is fine.
76.5 degree thermostat. Runs at 75-80 cruising around 80-90.
I know 90 is not bad. But that is completely empty on a mid to high 20 degree day.
If im towing on a 35 degree day then 90 will be nothing but a number I used to see haha.
Ordered the rad. Will bang it in when it arrives and throw a couple of tonne behind it for testing purposes.
Plus I was seeing up to 110 degrees up big hill pulls holding speed just with camping gear and one dirtbike in tow.
Does it open to the correct length in operation though? If it doesn't block the bypass port when the thermostat is fully open then coolant can just recirculate through the head.
I would like to think so. Brand new genuine thermostat and brand new thermostat housings top and bottom.
I will pop it out when I do the rad and check but im pretty confident it will not be faulty.
Factory turbo engine thermostat.
Ill measure it up and shiz later in the week when the rad turns up.
The highflow water pump dropped it about 10 degrees down the highway. So if the rad drops it another 10 ill be stoked.
There is al sorts of info about high flow thermostats and stuff isnt there with the TDs?
Yep. There is a thread on the other forum dedicated to it. Has part numbers and all.
Pm me the link please? Im lazy.
After doing some reading on thermostat heights thanks to Nissannewby, ill be putting a tridon high flow thermostat in. Sticking to a 77 degree one as thas factory turbo temp. Along with the radiator hopefully I can drive it a/c cranking, towing etc without an issue.
Temps are now sweet as a nut. Going faster with higher ambients it sat between 78°c and 81°c. Happy as larry.
Thermostat too. I think the thermostat is a big part of it thanks mate!
Which means I can forget about that now and do my locker/shim and second batt!
Hi, what do you have to say about that PWR?
Thank you,
Vinnie
Got motivated after work!
The intercooler or radiator? Cooler seems to do alright, egts do get to 550 if you are flat to the floor up a big arse hill from 20km/h up to 110km/h, but who drives like that anyway.
Radiator seems good so far.
