Good price , I use the following plus my black & decker finger file "best tool ever"
The linisher spins a bit slow but the one on the grinder makes up for it.
Might find it hard to shape on that one
going to googlie the "finger file" as I have never heard of one
edit - after old googlie revealed pics, i have seen them as I was looking at getting 1 for my air compressor
A lot of radio fitters use them great tool I use it for heaps of things,
Bunnings sell them I think for around $100. good for shaping MDF for speaker boxes ETC

Power file might be the correct term but found a link to one above
looking at a ryobi 1 that is 375w from memory and not much more in cost and the belt sander has a more supported frame
Think my one is Ryobi 375 watt not the fastest tool in the shed.
but great when I was doing the brass on my Sharp finger.
Made shaping all the brass and Buff very easy
Damascus steel
Sent from my iPad using Motorculture mobile app
I was thinking that, but then saw the photo above it all shiny.. Is that the effect after an acid etch?
Still learning all these little tricks..
from memory it is.
http://www.alabamadamascussteel.com/servlet/StoreFront - this site specialises in damascuss steel, some excellent patterns and blanks as well
I've used acid to eat the softer steel and the high ridges I've polished, Just something different.
OD found the mob I get my steel from, you can see my hidden tang knife there as well as some others
@ Growler these are my folders top is a Board of works issue.
Great rabbit skinner
other 2 are nothing special but very sharp,
thought the middle one was the same as yours
Bumped , found this on Ebay and got all excited

Yoo hoo I'm in
nioce find
That's the one they use in the states , no need for a back guard . You need that area to be flexible.
check some U tube flicks you'll see what I mean, In that same shop even those double ended
polishers are used by knife makers. Anyway bought one , that's my xmas present.

Some more pics of Damascus which is different to folded steel as used on Japanese Katana .
It will vary in layers from say 176 to 520 layers folded umpteen times..
Seki City and San Mai would be top of the range with cold steel and prices would reflect that.
Pakistan Damascus is at the lower end, the quality is not there
Yea I was watching a how to make Damascus and yea.. Awesome.
Would want a decent workshop setup..
that's for sure I love the history of it I'll put a pic here of a folded steel samurai Katana so you can see the difference.
Katana's are a work of art just like some knives, This Katana is razor sharp, they were master craftsman, but this is whole new topic and very ,very interesting
Folded steel has more layers and they polish to finish it, you NEVER muck around with the finish
on any Japanese sword or touch the blade with your fingers
Yeah awesome stuff , Give google a go on its history and how its made.
the real Damascus recipe is lost, so they only think this is the way it was made.
Japanese folded steel has a long tradition and it may take 10 master craftsmen to make one sword
100s of hours polishing it, yeah I love it
@ STROPP just looking at your Katana whats missing is a bit of sting ray skin. the small item on the handle is called a menuki or similar.
Some had full stingray on the handle others had cord holding the skin and menuki in place. The Menuki is for grip . I also like the swirls on
the blade like waves or clouds. Maybe you could cover it with cling wrap so you don't lose any more pieces.
@ Kallen when ever you work on a knife once you have the edge on it tape it up or make a universal guard.
Haven't cut myself yet but would think it is very easy to lose a digit. lol
Good tip TD..
Was going to leave final sharpen until last.
Yeah had a few ripped out of my grip trying to polish them , lucky up to now .
but will put steps in place to avoid any injuries
Yea good point..
@ STROPP this is polished stingray skin
Where do I get that.
Have just entered a forum KITH. (knife in the hat)
20 of us amateurs are producing a knife and come Easter Monday our names will be drawn and we send our product to one of the 19 other people and we receive on in return..
So does that stingray make nice scales???
latest addition. rescue knife with led torch, flint striker, half serrated liner lock blade, seatbelt cutter, window breaker and belt clip.
It will be in my glovebox, no dramas over in WA
@ Mego it depends walking around at 10 o'clock at night with a baseball bat might look suss.
but 2o'clock Saturday arvo is another matter. Its not a concealed weapon and if used in your work be it cutting rope
or opening boxes.
@ OD we have very similar tastes, no an expensive knife, leave this one in the Patrol with my
Leatherman "KICK" I got with a sub to 4WD Action years ago
@ Kallen that's the Saya or scabbard for a Katana
back when 4WDA where putting out good items, they won't get to waste in the glovebox. I bought 5 in total so will have 1 in the wifes car as well.
Yeah I also received a great light weight nylon sleeping bag that folds up to
the size of a grapefruit, perfect on hot nights
nice, auspost is running slow, still waiting on some knives I ordered over a month ago :(
I try to avoid buying around this time of year
, the postal network is flat out and a high chance your item could get lost
more likely stopped by customs like a previous order was
I have a Leatherman on order already had two taken by customs
cause the screw holding the blade was loose and you could "flick" it open.
I sent message stating that and they replied out of SYD now, still waiting,
nice leatherman
Spied these and thought they would look good in Damascus
and either camel bone or a burr timber disc on each side
