Mudski your correct about your block and Jono can easily use his turbo kit with it.
Machining is all cost dependant on how much is required but should not be more than $2000.
I think westy has been misunderstood and no suggestion here is a bad suggestion. He proposed Jono sell his turbo kit to aid with funds for getting this back on the road, sure its a backwards step performance wise but is certainly a way to ease the financial side of it. Again it is only a suggestion.
There should be no "should" or "should not" in this thread, just suggestions and info to arm Jono with all the tools he requires to make an inform decision. Regardless of his decision it will be the right one. There is more to this than just throwing another engine in it.
So lets way up the pros and cons then to help the man out.
Rebuild- Pros- The engine will be fresh and the condition now known, being new should give years of trouble free motoring.
Cons- Time and cost, obviously any machining that may be required will take time, cost will come from machining and parts
Secondhand motor- Pros- The quickest way to have the car running.
Cons- Another unknown, yes there is a 30 day warranty but who says it wont fail and how do we know the condition.
New motor- Pros- Also a quick option and also a warranty is given (either a reco or crate)
Cons- Again cost will be up there.
Keep the generosity, info and suggestions flowing. If Jono has any questions then he is allowed to ask. Sometimes just listening is a good thing.
