Bit of an unfortunate situation turns into a win for me. Contractors on one of my jobs that I was returning site for have come down with Covid, so job cancelled. Second job 'could' go the same way, so I am not required on site in Jan/Feb - happy with that, both jobs delayed until Oct 1 at earliest.
Bloody Mia my 11 year old daughter.
So I’m mad but kinda laughing inside from her bullshit pranks.

I do eat them. I really like them but not people many do. Hard to describe the taste but they are sort of waxy if boiled, but less so if baked or roasted when they are a lot dryer and harder. They are not oily. A bit like roasted almonds.
You do have to work to get to eat them - first to get them out of the large cone, then cook them the way you prefer, then getting them out of the shell which is very tough but not crackable like many other nuts.
Grab some and give them a go some time - surprised you haven't already with all your adventures. I believe there are some up in the wet tropics but more so in the SE corner of Qld but you might have trouble with the weather up your way at the moment.
Vendor who sold me two 12v in-line diesel heater that leaked from start up agreed to refund me the cost, without return of unit, took 20 photos and a video and getting Paypal involved. Currently waiting on the replacement heater from the US to arrive so hope the outcome is better.
Chinese site, made out to look like it's made in USA but ultimately isn't, vvkb.com, if the lift pump was not in play I suspect the unit would be fine as when I pulled the first one apart to see if I could find the source of the leak, the seals are silastic or glue, not rubber and there are three elements sandwiched together including the mount bracket using the one set of screws. I have 12psig at idle and it starts leaking at start up, almost instantly. If there was no lift pump it would probably be ok. The brand is simatic I believe, there is a photo of it in one of my posts, either what I bought or did today or not happy perhaps? Customer service was pretty good up two the failure of the second unit, then got bogged down. Root issue is their spec does not preclude it's use with a lift pump or within the pressure size of the fuel delivery and should have a positive pressure limitation.
Once again we are pinching ourselve at our good fortune. Each time a desirable opportunity arises to have a more 'in-depth experience' that cannot be had by travelling alone, it serves to confirm the gut feeling we had when we commenced travelling, that taking our time & travelling slowly would flush out such opportunities & we have no reason to pass them by as we don't have to be anywhere at any time. We had been thinking of leaving the Cape at the end of this wet season, possibly heading west to Arnhem Land, but an opportunity that few people would ever get has arisen & we are grabbing it with both hands.
We have accepted a 12 month caretaking role at the Iron Range Research Station confirmed for when we finish up here at Moreton at the end of the wet. We certainly never set out to do any house sits/caretaking gigs back to back, nor to seek anything for as long as a year, but when an opportunity to live hidden away in the middle of probably the richest flora & fauna hotspot in Australia arose, we couldn't say no. We will be living in a modern off grid house surrounded by 800 acres of privately owned rainforest, which in turn is surrounded by the entire Iron Range rainforest.
Previously we have spent time in the Iron Range rainforest - day visiting, but expect to see far more living right in it & with access to rarely visited habitats.
Much of the time we'll be there alone, but will get occasional visits from an assortment of researchers & ecologists who want to study something or other in the unique ecosystem for a week or two at a time. Essentially 2 modern self contained houses with a shared outside undercover 'tropical kitchen & sealed food storage room. plus a few other storage buildings. Us in one house , visitors in the other. Although not far from Lockhart River Community the place is completely hidden away & can't be seen from any road , nor found on satellite imagery.
The 'job' shouldn't be too arduous or time consuming & is essentially voluntary, although we will get paid a stipend which will cover our living expenses & make our stay there 'cost neutral', plus all utilities & satellite internet included.

Its funny how these tests work. Guy I work with left site a day early due to feeling poorly, even though he tested neg on a RAT, tested again that night, neg, went to bed, wife who is a pharmacist made him do another at the end of the second day, and he is positive. The entire Capital Projects office on site got tested again today and 4 of them went positive out of 5 - only one who wasnt tested is unvax'd, yet was there and took the chocolate out of the box that was handed around by the infected person - go figure?
