Trouble is a lot of these are air shafts and are dug from the inside of the drive upwards until they reach the surface - so there are no mullock heaps. I have been inside many of the old mines here in the North East and it is not unusual to find many animal bones at the bottom of these shafts. At least, I assumed they were animal bones.Quote:
