Crem, they can be run off either side of the box tie down points so don't have to be set like these in the photos. Either way though they will ensure quick release from a roof rack and quick access to the contents of a box when you need it.
I personally like to cross them over like in the pics to stop movement, but there probably other ways to strap them down.
Are the clips uv resistant mate? The clips are a good choice but I had some that were on the outside of a camper fall apart after about 18 months and I hardly used it. Just degraded and fell apart in the sun.
It was a chinese jobbie I think, so my bet its that they were just cheap rubbish.
No Chinese jobbie here mate. Everything is built for the outdoors environment and to go the long haul. The clips are awesome and we are very happy with them. In fact, we are currently looking at other applications, and possibly a mod to get them to handle fridge slides too, as once set, there is no movement at all.
Ben, what's the reasoning behind having a quick release clip vs a fixed buckle?
These look similar to the straps I repurposed from old child care seat extension straps to hold my fridge. They have a quick release buckle that doesn't budge, but allows you to quickly and easily extend the strap while keeping it one piece.

Mostly to avoid ratchets that get full of dust and become a pain to use if left on the roof rack for a big trip.
Looks like a similar principle to what you've knocked up there mate. With these clips there is a tab on one part that prevents them from vibrating loose too. If you pull them up tight and then do 5000klms on corrugations, they will still be as tight as when you started. Been very impressed with them.
I did notice that those clips had a hinged part at the base. That's great that it's a locking function.
Those quick release tie down straps do look great Ben mate!
Please do keep us posted when they might be available, I’m taking my girls for a 2 week GU wagon adventure overseas next year and have calculated 8 x their clothes boxes of your dust proof design up top on the rack either side of the Oztent Taj Mahal’s down the middle :-)

Hi Ben, I reckon I might be interested in some straps to hold our fridges onto their slides. The box got from you is a real winner. MrsTea is much happier with it than the lidded nally box it replaced. It has been in daily use since we left Broome at the beginning of June, has seen *plenty* of dust & simply does the job. Might have to catch up with you in the next month or two. Arrived in Mareeba this morning, will be a bit north of Mossman for a few months.
Keen on some straps too Ben. Need a Bulk Buy NP.com price mate. We could advertise it in the Members Only section if that works.
