Hoping it is just a lifter, but it sounds very crunchy. Only a couple of thousand kms out of it. Also very lucky it failed in the township and not on the beach, north of Beachport as was planned for the afternoon.

She's toast. #1 and #2 have dropped valves. The bore in #1 is rooooted. Unless there is a lot of meat in the bore walls, the block is an anchor. I just hope the crank is still good and the $1000 oil pump isn't crunched up with metal. Had a front locker on order, so will have to cancel that, too.

Yep, sitting on a razor blade right now as i am booked to return to the mine in QLD on Feb 3. The only 'good' thing about the QLD scenario is that they now have a couple of Corona cases so they may be more restrained in their reactions, unlike WA, however I can understand this is about containment. Its not the governments at fault, its the numpties who refuse to abide by instructions and to take responsibility for their actions. Its all well and good to belly ache about your freedom to move around being restricted, well, maybe frame the situation around one of your family members being the spreader source or getting ill and dying - there needs to be more of a personal link to the cause and effect with certain parts of the community. We have the 85 YO mother-in-law flying down from Hervey Bay on Jan 8, been living in a bubble up there, Covid free, and wants to come down to Melb and go shopping - guess what, better pack a jigsaw puzzle because we aint going out and about with a high risk person - she has asthma as well and is a total PIA to boot - maybe i should take her shopping!Quote:

Road Toll, my arse. What a cop out. That term makes people complacent and to accept it. A family we know has been destroyed on Christmas eve. Unfortunately it was their daughter on learners driving when they had a head on crash.
Update, on the Old Trol. The air inlet deflector can under the carby has broken loose and entered the cylinders, so it is still terminal, but the engine builder is in the clear. I can't even point a finger at the engine installer, because the carby and manifold were in one piece when installed.

I gotta back track with the engine, because I feel a bit like a drama queen.:{. Trying to decipher the picture on the inspection camera in daylight, I really thought the engine was toast. It was only after we pulled the head that the truth was revealed.
Under the carby, Mr Nissan had fitted a a sheet metal air deflector, about the size of a small plastic film canister. About half of the deflector is cut away. This was to make sure every cylinder received the right amount of fuel air mixture.
The cuts made in the deflector are right angle with bugger all radii. So with time the metal has cracked and dropped into the engine. The sheetmetal pieces have been smashed, folded and pounded flat by the valves and piston crown. The big gouge I thought was in the cylinder wall turned out to be a reflection of part of the debris on top of the piston.
I really did think it was bits of the valves. Hopefully the engine builder can check every thing and we can get it going with minimal cost, so I can afford the front locker.

Interesting perspective, I think we are at opposite sides of the universe right now. Maybe the wearing of masks would be easier for some if the 'gubberment' sent out cheques or maybe free 'telly's' to compensate for the inconvenience? Or they simply multiplied the fines 10 fold to enforce what is clearly a positive way forward? At the end of the day it is your choice, however there are tangible consequences coming really quick, so if you have that sort of idle cash floating around, I guess you are ok to not wear a mask and stick the middle finger up at everyone else who is following the scientifically based directive of the State Medical Officer.
Me. I am a little bit self centred like you; I am in a high risk group, I have a daughter with a new borne, another high risk group, my wife is an aged care worker helping people in their final stages of life, a critical risk group, and I simply want to be able to go back to work, something i have not had the luxury of since March 3 2020, and NO GUBBERMENT hand-out either, so yeah, its personal to me, just as it is personal to just about every other person trying to get to the other side of this pandemic with the least damage. I urge you to reconsider your position and abide by the instruction, it won't hurt a bit.
