Already rebuilt the motor once mate, within 6 months of purchase the motor blew up and spend about 13k rebuilding it (paid a mechanic in Wollongong to fully rebuild with new head turbo timing chain etc.
I just need to recognise a bad investment and move on from it I think.

Harry has advised he has done a gasket test, where the gasket stood firm but upon warming the motor with a chemical test found exhaust in the coolant. He firmly believes the gasket is fine and the head has failed. I will know more tonight when I see him though.

Man really disappointing Nicko, sux mate.

Geez Nic, that's crap mate. Can't believe the run you've had since selling the shorty.
I'd imagine it's hard to decide what to do at the moment, probably see what Harry has to say and go from there.
Don't make any rash decisions, think about it, sleep on it, discuss it and then decide. Whatever you decide you'll have to live with.
Good luck mate, feel for you.
Sorry to hear Nicooo. That's shithouse mate. But Jack nailed it! Don't jump into a single decision just yet. Your angry feelings may muddy up your future decisions. Give it some time to think what your move will be mate.
I'm feeling better after picking up the car this arvo. George laid out a few options which I hadn't considered, an engine conversion being one of them. He has told me he would do it with me, all up the cost could be less than 10k.
The more I think about it the more it makes sense. George thinks an LS conversion would be the most cost effective and reliable, and I'm not sold on a TD42 swap over, some of you with those still have your issues. Still deciding what my next move will be but there are more than just two options now which makes me feel much better.

I considered a barra conversion as well.
To get the same power as an LS though you would be spending more money. Everybody loves a V8 patrol.

Not after power, just reliability. I just want a car that doesn't break down.

Bang for buck as above mate and George is on the money, parts galore for petty 5.7L Chev’s. IMO they really are a great local hills motor for you if the timing is kept stock, don’t get a pimped up lumpy street cam donk.

Mate it's a carnt for sure.
But honestly mate i was in the same boat with my zd at 110 thou.
They pulled the head off and were convinced it was cracked as the gasket looked fine.
Crack and pressure tested head.mate and come back 100%.
New gasket in and happy days.
However..
Got the pathy v6 now and I was the same pertols are easier..
Turns out I have an exhaust issue (running rich).
The computer scan can't pick if it's cats or up line further.
So pulling spark plugs Sunday to see if I can find a rich cylinder.
Brother will check fuel pressure..
And at the end of it all it may be $2500 in cat replacement....
So patrols ain't all happy days..
I've had this car a week.....
Bugger mate that is really shit!!! All the more reason I'm leaning/choosing to keep the car and change the motor, all cars are a gamble, I figure I know my car has been very reliable, I've just got a turd of a motor. Piss that off, should be problem solved. Better the devil you know right?

Damn mate not good, im sure you'll work ou what path you want to go down eventually.
I was at this cross road 2 years ago.
In the end i opted for the barra due to its excellent low down torque, power and reliability... The barra also has great potential to get good power with minimal mods and i will be happy to answer any questionsif need be... if you're in melbourne i am also happy to take you out for a drive...
Since i did the conversion 2 years ago it has done 2 weeks in tassies west coast , snow trips, Victorian high country numerous times and plenty of long distance travels including some nav run events...
To be honest with you ive had 1 problem (electrical issue) where it left me in the bush but wasmt related to the engine but apart from that its been fanasticif youre happy to go against the grain as its something different...
It is not as common as the ls which means there is probably less info on it but these days more and more people are doing them if you check out the barra patrols page on Facey.
The ls is also a vsry sensational engine and conversion with heaps more info out there and kits available... nothing sounds like a v8 but truth be told i love driving this thing like miss daisy and no one bats an eyelid until you smoke them off the lights...
Best of luck
That Sarah Hanson Young kept her seat.
2nd hand Nissan X-Trail
Biggest piss of shit, swapping it back for a Toyota
Tell me about it. Bought one 8 months ago and hate it.
The good: 2wd, awd, 4x4.
The bad: front wheel drive 2wd, 2.5L gutless petty. CVT (Errgh!). Ergonomics. Fuel guage 50% out. Gear selector solenoid dodgy so have to use shift lock button a lot.
The ugly: Ugly.
Picked up the GQ last Thursday after throwing three grand at it for a major service plus a few bits and pieces , spent all weekend cleaning it up inside and starting to pack for the Kimberly trip .
Had to go into town this morning and the bloody thing cut out halfway in and wouldn't restart so I'm thinking for a split second what have they done to it and then had a horrible feeling could I be out of fuel the gauge only works when full but I've always relied on the low fuel warning light .
Sure enough out of fuel and because I cranked it the lines were full of air and a bitch to get going and keep going .
Now what's made me angry is with the draws and partitions in the back I can't get to the sender unless I drop the tank and that pisses me off the most .
Actually think we just flooded it, moved it from under the carport done some stuff 2 it moved it back, then later on in the day Erin went 2 start it.... just wound over would go 2 start but wouldn't fire. Had a look on the net and it seems 2 be a common problem if u only move it a short distance the can flood. So foot 2 the floor wound it over nothing, tried again nothing.... by this stage the battery was not happy, pulled the battery out of the corolla and hooked it up via jumper leads, foot 2 the floor it.... nothing, tired it again and fired up with a big puff of smoke, smoke cleared and seems fine.
Taking it 2 the mechanics in a few week for a check over 2 make sure all is ok, won't worry about driving it until then.
About two weeks ish if nothing else unexpected happens .
So just went to help a staff member with email. Problem needs Outlook setup. Turn on PC open Outlook, it's already setup, so I guess that their password has expired, they've changed it, but not updated Outlook, correct appraisal.
New password supplied was incorrect. Huffed at by staff member, just use the password the computer remembered. I say, no, it'll be your old password. They disbelieved me. Given new password, that didn't work either. Staff member walks into office, huffed at again as if to say you're an incompetant useless annoyance who obviously doesn't know anything.
Staff member tries all passwords supplied, none work. Starts going through their list of passwords, stumbles across one that works and wasn't supplied.
I politely pointed out that once I'm given the things you've setup I can certainly configure things for you.
This is my 30th anniversary year in IT support and I still come across rude people like this.
Nuh, too busy thinking their ship doesn't stink.
People in Sydney continually whinging about HR's in the Blue Mountains on an RFS FB page
Still, so true mate, a close mate recently told me of how an acquaintance who they worked with deleted them from facebook, after leaving the job, then has started again with them, he said it was awkward, I say they were never friends in the first place. Facebook is great for looking at ls1s for sale, real friends drop by unannounced just to say gday.

WARNING - This happened to me yesterday. Paypal credentials hacked. My delivery address for goods had been changed and I didn't know. I purchased an item and the delivery address came up correct on the Paypal transaction record, however the actual delivery address sent to the vendor is an address in the UK. I only found out as the vendor made contact to advise the shipping would not be free, as it was to an overseas address - goods coming from Bris to melb. I jumped onto Paypal to report it, then checked my account and found absolutely dozens of times the delivery address has been changed or updated. Don't ask me how or to what purposes as to date everything has arrived, however I am now locked in a battle with the vendor who is refusing to send the goods to the correct Melb address as he is bound to send to the address he has received from Paypal. I have opened a claim with Paypal and am in contact with the vendor - bit of a stalemate going on, hope to get it resolved. I have changed the passwords already, might have to simply cancel the transaction if the vendor does not pull his head in. Painful to say the least. So, check your Paypal credentials and profile for sure.
Yes Sergai in London is now the proud wearer of a set of RayBan sunglasses for 90 GBP, hope they suit his look. Paypal and ebay accounts both hacked, so password change. He also changed the contact email address so any correspondence from either ebay or paypal did not reach me. Paypal has refunded the money, and ebay have paid the two transactions I was unable to complete today due to being unable to change/remove the London address. Dirty dirty dog.
brrrrr, feels like temperature at 12:43pm where I am = -3.7.
geez we've had some wind, hail, thunder, lightening.
Good old climate change.
