I took a couple of dozen shots and I only got two that were decent. Problem I had was that the oil tended to "clump" unless I swirled it to make it form drops like you can see, which then presented a focusing problem because of the lack of light. As it was, I was using a slow shutter speed and high ISO to get this. I'm going to build (sometime) a lightbox that will use RGB led strips as a light source. The light source on this image was a couple of fluros with diffusers. The colour is from a towel placed under the pyrex bowl that contained the water and oil. The other reasonable shot is a totally different colour to this one but doesn't look as sharp to me..... But as I said, it's good fun..... :)
The other "decent" oil in water shot I have........

All I can say is WOW
Just got back to have a look at this thread, some amazing shots here. How I wish I had a quality camera, my digital isn't an SLR and I really need to read the instructions.
I've also got an old SLR with a couple of interchangeable lenses but the cost of getting film developed is now prohibitive. I did enjoy using that and still have about 20 rolls of film which are now out of date.
Don't let the camera stop you mate. You can do a good job with just about any camera these days. The tracks in the snow put up by onkey is a great example of creative use of light and contrast and would look good on any modern camera. It is the person behind the camera that really makes these pictures. Keep taking good photos and whne you get a good camera think how easy it will be. Just so I am not missunderstood, I'm not saying anyone couuld take these photos, I am saying that these guys are craftsman and a craftsman can produce good work with any tool. When the tools are good as well they can produce even better work.
Anyone remember Rescue Special Ops? The theme song was filled on Ericsson phones placed around and on the band and IMHO a pretty good song.... :)

Thank you very much for your kind wards.
And remember something that you often see or do to you is quite dull but to others is grate.
And don't spend hundreds on a new camera buy a good second hand one. i would recommender an Olympus E-410 Only £100 in very good condition hear in England. (most of my posted photos are with this camera).
More in the snow.
