Have you tried starting it off the solenoid? If it cranks over, then you could just have a sh!tty ignition barrel (the barrel you put the key into) - I had this go on mine about 6 months ago - $80 and relatively easy repair (getting the little screws out is a bitch though).Quote:

The solenoid is just a big relay - it has two little wires that go in and out, one positive, one negative. These pull in an electromagnetic switch that is connected to the big wires that carry the current that actually goes to the starter.
Knowing that, one can put the car in neutral, ignition on, and run a jumper lead from the positive terminal on the battery down to the big wire that goes from the solenoid to the starter - either at the solenoid or starter end, whichever is more accessible.
Another technique to deal with solenoids is to give them a lightish to medium tap with a hammer, as sometimes they just jam.

It has. Every time we go to go out something goes bloody wrong. Alas I now have a spare and all is good with mine. Even the neadit is still holding on the gear box. So what can I break next and who's turn to take me to get parts? LOL

It's looking like I might actually make it tomorrow. It was looking doubtful yesterday when the ride on mower wouldn't start, thought I might have to spend my fuel money on a new starter motor for it but all sorted now for only $15.
