Great to hear mate! i just saw your thread for the first time. you have already done so much work, and things are turning out great!
Are you going to just paint the frame to prevent future rust problems? also how is the rust in the body? in Australia the chassis long out lives the body, rust in the roof gutter it what kills most patrols in Australia so take special note of the condition of your gutters and the area just above it.
Are you keeping your plans a surprise or do you have something in mind such as lift size etc?
Also i would be keen to know what prices of the mods you do are like, to compare to the Aussie market. i noticed your doing a suspension lift, depending on what you're after ask about it on here, you will get some good advice regarding it(if you need it) as most of the Australian suspension mobs design their shocks and springs to deal with some of the harshest environments on earth!
Looking forward to seeing more mate.
Cheers
Rusty
Hi Rusty!
Plans of the frame:
- clean frame from old tar and equipment - DONE
- sandblast - DONE
- cut out rusted pieces - DONE
- weld in new sheet metal - DONE
- sandblast again - DONE
- zink coating - DONE
- paint frame with some offshore coating
- black coating, hammerite
i think this helps to prevent against rusting for
the body is also rusted, especially around the rear wheel arches

i have found new wheel arches that i will put on, but first i will finnish the frame :)
Attachment 58740
the final patrol will be lifted 60mm =) this is because this is the only lift kit i hav found wich have TUV approval (need to have for approval of car) if anybody know another lift kit with TUV certificate please tell me :)
Attachment 58741
Ive noticed in the states and in the UK they spray some kind of black pitch /tar on treated surfaces for very harsh enviroment.
I like your work so far, hopefully your Patrol will last a long time, bugger that salt must play havoc with electric wires
i forgot to tell you Rusty, the cost of it all:
- sanblasting and paint - 2300 AUD
- lift kit with TUV certificate - 1800 AUD
- wheel arches (one side) - 713 AUD
- the car - 6240 AUD
- 1,5 liters of hammerite :) - 89 AUD just a regular item (fun to compare)
- complete set of body mounts:
Norway: 2400 AUD
Australia: 390 AUD!!
I bought the body mounts on Patrolapart.com.au thei could send it to me :) including shipping and taxes it stilll is half prize of norwegian prices!
Yes threedogs! i can see on my 2010 E-class that it is alot of rust on the under side of the car already. the average age on a car here in norway is approx. 10 years. older than that is rusted away because the salted roads. this is a serious issue. I am also thinking of better protection for the wiring on the car as well. it will come later in the thread :)
Regarding your question rusty, about my plans beeing a suprise or not: even i don't know the plans yet haha, i am doing the plan along the car rebuildt :P its funny that way, i can even suprise my self. like these orange axles ( was not in the plan but it was fun and now i think they are cool) :)
i think this car is going to be a cool story =)
maybe black body suits the orange axles?
WOW!! What a build thread mate. I'll be watching with interest. I wish I had the skills and patiance...lol
Orange is different everyone here does plain old black.
A product called POR15 is very good for protection
yes the color orange is also different at car renovation here as well :)
because where i work i can get some nice treatment for my Patrol. the paint comes from an offshore platform:
These two items have the same treatment:
Edward Grieg Platform in the Norwegian sea:

the thickness of the total coating is 1,5 mm. and its solid hard! :)
Here is my mate laying something callde Jotun Coat or Jotun Mastic. It it an aluminium based paint to use before the actual paint to be layedhttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...015/06/130.jpg
Black over orange, should look different.
