I'd go an l98 with 6 speed auto rather than ls2 basically the same engine but the l98 gets a little more low down torque. Jennis ve ss wagon runs that motor gearbox set up it all works nicely.
I should be picking my gu st-l 05 model td42 on Wednesday.

This highly strung thing is something I can't quite get my head around, look at all the trucks in the 4.5 ton + range, they all have 3.0 litre turbo diesels. You don't hear about many problems and they go quite well (from firsthand experience) with excellent fuel consumption. Perhaps the ZD30 has some problems but "not having the cubic capacity for a big 4x4" or "being highly strung" is not one of them in my opinion.Quote:

Got a call today from a mate who's brother brought a GUII about three months ago. Supposedly with a rebuilt motor. He was on his way down to Uluru and the motor went bang. His towing quote back to Melbourne is 4500$. Just reinforces my thoughts that I need to get off my rrrs and build this TD42 for mine...
