Go out with a group of others - don't be first in, as you may find it is deeper and harder than you think, and doing this will give you a chance to evaluate lines, speeds, and the hidden challenges, and then don't be last in, as it will all be churned up.

My personal opinion.......stick to sand......avoid mud at all cost. My preference is bitumen. lol
We found a dam up in Ras al Kaimah - there is what looks like dried up mud around it. As you get closer you realise that it's top is dry, but underneath it's very soft. Sort of like clay.
Well to cut a long story short, it was truly horrendous. Started ok, but after less than 50 metres something felt not right. Very unforgiving, no reversing out of this one LOL.
Tires full of clay, and diffs resting in the mud.
