palm valley, finke gorge ? Open pic if I'm right
Well the name you have given is very similar .......... But you don't have the right one. This is not anywhere near the Finke gorge, not in the centre, in fact not in the NT.
How's that for a clue?
Cuppa
N W wa Looks very Bungle Bungle to me
Now ya talkin' TD......... Just need to get a little more specific.
Mini Palms Gorge
Oh TD, you ran the race & then stumbled at the finish line!
GUtsy ute wins the biscuit. Mini Palm Gorge in the Bungle Bungle it is.
We had 3 days in the Bungles, parked the bus out near the highway at Spring Creek & rode the bikes in, loved it, but it was a bit rushed & stinking hot. Another time I'd want at least a week in there.
There's far more there than just the beehive domes.
Your turn GU.
Cuppa
It's a place of interest in a National Park.

I don't recognise it, but it has to be in the Kimberley with that Boab.
It's actually in the NT.
Is it in the Gregory NP? Maybe the Bullita Homestead?
You win the bag of lollies, Cuppa,
Good Park to get away from the crowds and do some isolated bush tracks.
We only camped overnight at Big Horse Creek, on the highway. The park was one of the many places we said we would return to with a 4x4.
Will post a new pic shortly
Cuppa
While we're waiting, here's another of that Boab Tree.

Where is this beach?
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...013/03/108.jpg
A clue is that wild Manta Rays come right up to the beach to be fed here.

Ah, but unlike you Plassie, I don't have the best avatar on the forum. :) Makes me smile every time I see it.
Cuppa
Yeah goodonya! Guess I asked for that, :D
Is it on Whitsunday Island?
Not Whitsunday island.
A couple of clues.
It is probably about as far away from Whitsunday Island as it's possible to get on mainland Australia!
The pied piper doesn't live here.
Cuppa
Rat island lol
Rodent island??
Haha I got nothing....
Wedge island?
FanTapstic!
Hamelin Bay?
They were big clues.
Rodent island! LOL.
Yeah, Hamelin Bay, down below Margaret River, WA.
I guess you could've gone for Hamelin Pool a bit further north, where the stromatolites are.
Back to you TPC
Cuppa I've been tracking some of your travels, read your trip report with your son and am I ever envious. Wish I could have done all that.
Thanks for sharing the experience and starting this thread, really enjoying it.
I am running out of digital photos, will have to scan some of the old printed ones or go on more trips to get more photos.
Would love to do a trip like yours Cuppa, I think we are all envious.
What creek is this?
This was meant to be a crossing point.
Not Cooper creek and the photo is not in SA.
Eyre Creek in the Simpson?
Anywhere near Birdsville?
Eyre Creek is right, about 1 km ahead was Madigan camp 20 but could not get near it as the creek was about 1.5km wide there.
We spent the next few days heading south looking for a crossing point and constantly getting bogged.
This crossing via Madigan line took us 4 days more than we expected and were eating emergency rations of canned food by the end and beer ran out on last day.
Was probably the most fun we have ever had.
The amount of water this wall holds back is massive.

It was July 2010, there was lots of flooding that year.
When we left Mt Dare all roads were open but by the time we got to Birdsville they had all been closed.
The best part was calling work on the satphone and telling them I needed to extend my holidays because of flooding.
looks like Ord Dam, if it is put up another photo.
We did the Simpson in June- July 2010.
Had to go up to the shallower part to cross to get to Birdsville.
Left Birdsville early morning next day as it was starting to rain, and got to Windorah to hear the road was being closed.
Next pic is at a campground, with the walking track in the pic leading into a gorge.
http://i994.photobucket.com/albums/a...3June20096.jpg
A nice bit of Devonian reef there. The path takes you through a short natural tunnel which opens up to the gorge as you exit it. I know precisely where it is........ But I'll give someone else an opportunity to pick it. :)
When we camped there there was a young couple nearby 'sleeping' in a rooftop tent on top of a Toyota troopy with exceptionally squeaky suspension. At the time I swore blind that I'd never get a rooftop tent. However having had a troopy I can say that the Patrol sways a lot less when up in the RTT.

Anyone want to guess?
I will have a guess at Windjana Gorge.
One of the places I plan to visit next year when we plan to spend 6 weeks up Kimberley's way.
is it near Kunners?
You got it TP,
Tunnel Creek is worth a visit too, while you are in that area.
Someone else want to put a photo up, don't have access to my photos.
Anyone who hasn't put up a pic before wannahavago?
