Isn't it typical, i think I paid around the $190 from memory, but I wanted and needed them. Nice tools, smooth action and good ratchet mechanism. Also have a set of Bahco units however without the pivot heads, another good addition for the garage.

OK, might seem like a bit dinky, but i bought these little clamps for use on the fuel lines when changing in line filters and stuffing around in general, sick of getting rained on with fuel and ruining clothes etc. Super Cheap sell them, I think around $15, and they will handle up to a 12mm id hose, clamping is nice and gentle and they fit into the smallest of spots, no more vice grips and then hands can't access. Highly recommended.Attachment 84859
My Christmas pressie, Makita rattle gun arrived on the mail plane yesterday, but was swiftly taken & hidden so I can't play with it until Saturday.
EDIT
Now Saturday (Christmas Day).
Woohoo!

Not a tool as such, but I brought it to use in the shed and when I doing stuff outside. I wasn't after the best sounding or loudest, I wanted something that had good battery life. Was recommended this one from a work mate. I ran it over the weekend for over 15 hours and it still had 30% battery. Volume was at about 60%. You can also pair it with another one and have L&R.

So I'm at the point where my grass needs a trim. I purchased a Ryobi 18v brushless lawnmower. Had a look at the smaller entry level one which would have probably been good enough, but it really looks and feels like a toy. This one has the 2 battery option and more that enough power. The whole thing is plastic, but as long as you use it with a little care I can't see why it shouldn't last a while. Only fault I have is that you have to keep the lever squeezed in all the time, or the motor stops. I'll make a simple bracket to hold it in.http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...2022/02/31.jpg

Sorry mate you fkd up. Should have gone one of these steel decked 20 inch self propelled 4 battery capable 40 volt monsters. My non self propelled version of this beast is awesome, and has been functional for a few yeras now! Attachment 85071
In addition to the lawnmower I also got a Ryobi brushless impact wrench.
Rotated my tyres today using it and I'm impressed. I may be easily impressed tho.
Using highest setting (270nm) they spun off easily. Switched it over to the auto stop feature (120 nm) and went around all nuts twice, then grabbed torque wrench and checked. Had 2 that needed about 5 minutes as if you're looking at a clock, if you know what I mean, but that could have just been me not hitting it twice. All the others were pretty good.
There's even a note on the back of the box, but I have and will also finish with the torque wrench..http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...2022/02/34.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...2022/02/35.jpg

I I've been moved to onsite at work, which means I need some extra time for my job. I bought this two days ago and have it some use over the last two days. Scored it on a good deal, came with two batteries, charger, two different mounts, a laser range finder and a carry case. 10 bucks more than the DeWalt but came with a heap more stuff. I'm happy with the brightness of it, can still see the line 20m away in full sunlight. Attachment 85185

So took advantage of the Easter sales today and filled a basket at Supercheap with a few things to go in the tool box.
Of note are these 3 pick ups. Tools where 25% off.
These cable cutters are bloody awesome for cutting big cross-section twin core. I have just been using pliers or side cutters. Very happy with these.

I have a couple of pairs of side cutters, a couple of weeks ago I was working around the shed and misplaced my favourite pair damn it. Searched high and low damn it. I have a large set but my favourites are this middle size. If I find my other pair I'm happy to have 2 sets. Lol

And this little kit is very kool and will drop in a tool bag without thinking. Handy to have and these where cheap. ($15 or so I think)

Here are a couple of workshop hacks for you gents I found on FB.
Hold a difficult or odd shaped item in the pointy nose pliers and the clamp the pliers in the vice. They act as an extension Jig to the vice jaws. Very kool idea.

Have a need for a chainsaw at a level up from my Stihl 029 (Farmboss) nom 50cm³
Just bought my new toy, Husqvarna 592XP and this just moves thru quick as _ Cylinder displacement 92.7 cm³ / Power output 5.6 kW

Intend to do some slabbing and will be getting a 36" bar and skip tooth chain. Interested to hear from anyone that can suggest any chainsaw milling attachments known that are up to the job. Have a some hardwood logs (up to 30" dia) and do some pine planks into boards.
Beauty John Mate [emoji106][emoji106]
Most of our hillbilly milling these days is done on the yard bandsaw but little tips below from what little experience on our homemade Alaskan mill Stihl 660.
*30” diameter milling off your saw will require additional lubrication, preferably at the opposite end via drip bottle or Vicky standing safely at a distance with a squirter bottle.
* Especially with your softwood pine plans don’t fall for the Youtubey videos of diesel/bar oil mixes as your secondary/distance lubrication. It stains too deep into the timber and will require additional thickness/plane work to remove. 25% detergent/75% water we’ve found works a treat if applied to the long bar end and allowed to disappear before re-entering the saw.
*Skip tooth for sure especially on gnarly hardwoods to clear but consider say 10 degree chisel angle for a smoother finish cut (albeit harder to push through/along) but a lot less work after you’re done.

Nice one John, I made a home made Alaskan jobbie to suit 30" and upwards and works well as long as you've got plenty of time and a bit of muscle to slog your way through. . With a 30" bar cranked the oiler right up but any bigger will need some extra lube as discussed. . Also as discussed skip tooth and 10 degree chain and make sure bar is dressed really well if not will wander and be a real PITA. . Have been an offsider on a Lucusmill a few times and they are an awesome bit of kit bit priced accordingly. .
Alaskan style are petty cheap on ebay or Jono & Jono but here's a few pics of home made jobbie. .

Also made made some first cut rails but can use a ladder or timbers would work as well. .

Thanks @MB and @Rossco for good advice/tips and will retain for future milling reference for sure. Certainly have entertained the idea of a bandsaw and Lucusmill, both proven having great potential but yep, constraint is my lack of heavy lift capability machinery and their cost.
So milling attachment hauled to lumber on place will be the go, but rightly said need to be able push with manageable strength reserve for a while. Had a look at jono&johno mills etc and was last night checking out the Granberg Alaskan Mill MKIII (around $500) and looks reasonable quality.

"
Looking at 32 & 36" bars so thinking to get the 36" with the skip tooth ripping chain 10 deg, Think the 36" be choice as guess would loose 6" of bar with clamping in mill frame.
Most likely be buying mill and rails as many jobs to do and little time.
Have only a few saw logs up around 30" (mainly red stringy bark) and those smaller widths that will run thru thicknesser. Many pine of good size that would make good wall boards for bush chook type shelter and other ideas as they come to mind and makes good firewood (dry) for stove cooking.
If push get tough going, can always fit second handle maybe and Vicki can push also when having a rest from oil squirter bottle haha
@MB mark can you explain pine mill method here a bit more to help me understand better.
Are you still running chain /bar oil and then the water / detergent to disperse the residual chain lube oil before cut pass thru log?.Quote:
25% detergent/75% water we’ve found works a treat if applied to the long bar end and allowed to disappear before re-entering the saw.
I’ll take some photos and explain better when back at the yard later this morning John Mate.

Here’s our dusty old 660 Alaskan:
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...022/07/192.jpg
This is the secondary oiler/lubricant gravity fed bottle on the end:
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...022/07/193.jpg
Problem we found with using bar oil 100% on the gravity feed was getting constant regulated flow.
Many Youtubey videos from USA recommended a 50/50 bar oil / diesel mix but this stains the timber deeply and costs a lot of money in oil/diesel.
We changed to detergent/water mix tests and found it to be cheap and more effective in cleaning sap during cutting too.
Hand throttle is a great addition:

You’re welcome to borrow our little snig trailer anytime for hauling the long logs back to your shed for block & tackle hoisting up to a decent working platform height:

Vicky will also need to follow behind you whilst cutting with wedges to keep the weight off your bar [emoji736]

Have seen people rig up a small hand which to assist the old back which seems to work well. Red Stringy and Pine obviously aren't too tough so should get through it fairy trouble free. Milled up a heap of Yellow Stringy which is probably the toughest of the Stringies was fairly slow going but the using a Stihl 460 got it done slow and steady with one operator logs were probably around 20 - 25 inch diameter. . .

So you use this detergent/water mix plus saw bar oil(primary lub_retained) for all milling with dusty old 660 Alaskan?Quote:

and for soft and hardwoods?
Still have wedges of hardwood from dads and his dads bush mill (Tarago farm)_over 60 yrs old easy.
Thanks again you two blokes thought I was asking at the right place_lots to learn for this.
Using the larger mill (36" bar). would this also be good for smaller logs 18-20"? Make it easier or does not really matter (room to move)?
Have some roadside clearings that contractors dropped off recently, some interesting short logs (1.5-2m long) mainly 24" - a couple at 30") apple jack, red box that will useful.
Also have windfall tree but most get left for habitat but this recent one will be milled.
Smaller/thinner milling projects the chain saws own bar oil should be fine John Mate. We only hand squirt water/detergent mix on its end when up around max width on ours around 800mm IIRC.
Green sappy timbers the detergent helps a lot as mentioned.
We use only/solely the water/detergent mix 100% of the time on the main bandsaw workhorse.

Found it, a Youtubey we made on our second hand bought homemade Alaskan’s very first run a few years ago on a 5-6 year old season Red Ironbark bench seat to be John Mate:
https://youtu.be/9_s3k1wtPQ8
Extremely high silica content Ironbark’s munch new chains and foolishly without a skip tooth chain was very slow going we found but the cuts were smooth/easily worked later and very fine powdered saw dust.
Notice the bouncing of the mill end, we overcame this in later tests with a second set of hands simply holding a wooden garden stake in one applying light pressure down and squirter bottle target shooting the leading edge of the chain heading back to the saw with the other Vicky hand if that makes sense?

Oops, the threads says "tools you brought"... Not "stuff you brought" [emoji28]
.......from under the great down under.
Thanks for digging up the vidoe Mark. Do you think the bar bounce was more pronounced with having greater lengths of unsupported bar (outside log)/frame flex?
Like the quick fix elevated work platform, suits where smaller lift increment can only be achieved.
Swing saw sent thru certainly achieved excelled old timer result. No need for a greater skip tooth design here mate. Seen one similar used for coming down on smaller logs for firewood cuts.
OK. I have made an investment today that 8 have considered for many years. I have been searching online for a second hand unit cause they are dear as poison. I believe these should be in every workplace and a welcome addition into an Outback Touring rig or convoy..
So I found this on FB Marketplace. Bloke wad working on a Demo site and this was left as written off.
I have bought a brand new fully automatic Defibrillator Zoll AED Plus. It came with a full workplace alarmed cabinet. Might find a spot in thr laundry or under thebstairs for the cabinet. The AED will be going in the Hilux day to day and The Y62 and or the GQ when Touring.
