mystery, bought it second hand in the 80s.
Mauser 96 action with jewelled bolt and turned down handle, Parker Hale trigger and side safety. Still cock on closing. Military trigger guard and mag. I'm told it had a Norma badge glued onto the mag floor plate, and some of the glue is still there. Sporter profile barrel. Very plain timber stock, floated but not bedded. Fuller brought some in with timber and with black synth stocks - I'm told by someone who knows the timber stock that this isn't a Fuller.
Leupold varixII 3-9 scope, mostly used at 3 power in the field. I put that black neoprene thing on the butt to get my head up a bit better aligned with the scope. Ideally it would have lower rings and thus a different shaped bolt handle. But for all I know that may affect other things like ejection of cases?? I didn't really want the extra cartridge loops, or the little pocket - and since I've had it I've not fired more than 2 shots together. But, in the trip just gone there were heaps of snakes, mulgas, browns and apparently taipans. So I stuck a compression bandage in the pocket.
It shoots better than I do, but I'm catching up to it :-). Still need more practice with off hand shots!
Sits OK across the dash of the Mav.
