Cheers mate, they're both full 3/4 metre of the finest local mushie mix and a range of different veggies.I'll try to understand what your saying.
The boxes are colourbond with aluminium corners it's a Bunnings cheapie. I've lined the inside with some black mulch film. The bench was painted in primer over all the welds. I'm going to let it bleed out and probably give the timber a stain later on.

Stick with water based stains too mate [emoji106][emoji106]
I may know a bloke/rep or two with solvent based industry knowledge and sure as poison wouldn’t want that stuff anywhere near my healthy vegies [emoji107][emoji107]
Only issue with water based stains is your timber must be below circa 15% moisture content. You’ve scored Australian Standard hardwood flooring +/- 11% IIRC by standard and should absorb the stain/evaporate leaving no leaching of Gnarly Shit :-(

Looking a bit of all right Rossco_top job mate, now for the Lichen starter rock.
This has been keeping me busy on weekends lately. Repairing, modifying and modernising this rig to compete at tuff truck next year in the legends class

A space cab GQ body is going on. They are doing a legends class next year for the older type cars which they use to use back in the 90s and early 2000s so full chassis/body cars modified to the limit. Most guys run buggys these days which are full custom tube type things.
This one is originally based on an fj45 chassis. Has a 400 cube chev with auto. Twin transfers. Rear disconnect. Portal reduction hubs. Air lockers front and rear. Hydraulically adjustable coilovers. Currently has 44 boggers/super swampers on it but they are being replaced with 42" sticky treps.
Yeah the gu in the background has all the goodies. 4" lift 35s, front locker, full bar work, rear drawers, roof rack etc etc. Tough tourer.
This is the 42s next to my old work hilux.

Great work, that looks really nice!
Did you use some sort of mortar to hold it all together?
Cheers mate, yeah tried to keep the joins as tight as possible and all mortered and tapered at the back. .

With no soccer and great weather I made the most of lockdown.
Pulled my finger out and made a start on the front yard.
Three yakkas and a boulder are now in easy access. Two other yakkas are rotten.
Going to ask my neighbour who has a dingo and tipper if he won't mind removing the rest of the white rocks and take it all away.
Going to put instant turf and some colour in the planter boxes. Hopefully I can get into Bunnings next weekend.http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...021/05/180.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...021/05/181.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...021/05/182.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...021/05/183.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...021/05/184.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...021/05/185.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...021/05/186.jpg

Serious question, I had planned to paint my deck joists black so they will be less visible once the boards have been laid. I got to thinking and I have 20L of pitch black used diesel engine oil, I know back in the day people would paint their fences with it, and I've given it the sniff test and there is no real smell to it now that it has been sitting uncovered for at least 12 months in the shed.
Can anybody see any down sides to painting the joists with it? I'm not really looking to add any protection to the treated pine as it will be undercover, it is purely to stop being able to see the treated pine through the gaps in the boards.

@Winnie hmmm if you are not looking to stop rot then I dont think I would mate. I would be concerned about the smell when it hits a 45C in the middle of summer? For the sake of $50 for paint just roll on paint mate.
I’d probably recommend a water based bitumen paint Chrisso Mate, we use it on posts for into ground applications with lesser grade timbers like Sugargum versus bulletproof Ironbark’s.
Have diesel sump oil mixed with turps (needed for workable painting) my hardwood fences for years and they unfortunately stick brown road dust horribly until they need re-coating again every other year painfully doesn’t last as long as you’d think [emoji848]

How big a gap are yoy leaving between boards? What is the contrast like between decking and joists? Maybe you are trying to solve a problem that really isn't there?
If it were me I would be putting some sort of protection for the joists.

True story.....treated piney aint a pinch of shit worth as it used to be!
If you’ve cut its ends with a saw 🪚 there is no protection as the process of treating barely sinks in on 5mm of outers gifted to you via merchants whole[emoji2961]

I ended up taking your good fellow advice and trying a Bunnings click and collect order and got 100m of the rubber "protect a deck"
For the price of it, it wasn't worth trying to find a reason not to use it, and it will solve the potential issue I had of seeing the joists through the boards, and may even help cushion the boards a little to reduce squeaking.

FWIW....It is honestly worth painting your TP cut ends Chrisso Mate [emoji51]
Remind me, I’ll send disaster piccies to clarify if you need new Homemaker Legends [emoji120][emoji3590][emoji106][emoji106]

@Winnie ; you don’t have termite issues where you are? If you do prep the area for them too.

Thanks for the thought, but all good there.

Looks great Chris. Are you in the flight path of the migratory purple lipped South American weasel bat - they like nice straight ledges to roost on, for months! They travel at night as well. Bunning sell a special net to keep them out, aisle 43 I believe.
Forgot to mention, you can deter them by hanging lots of turnips high up the tree tops - just what I heard,
yeah i am bored

Wish we got more done today but the picture frame edging was an absolute head fark! It's enough to sit and have a beer on at least.
