Sounds like an epic trip gents, well done!! Out of interest, did any one carriers 4wd chains?

Phil carries them permanently but id be surprised if anyone else had any. They are pretty pointless for this type of snow to be honest. Chains work very well for breaking ice packed on bitumen but make no real advantage in heavy snow. When the snow gets deep and heavy your back to big footprint. 35 x 12.5 tyres. ATs are ok and wheel spin is your enemy.
Agree, I carry mine for frictionless surfaces where the only way thru is to chug your way across the surface. I have found them useless in snow full stop, and on the very rare times its got icy it was a case of slow right down as the patches are small.
After looking at all those pics I just wanna go right now!!! Bloody spewin that I couldn't make it. Im in for next year...
Next year Gents, mark it down. Looking at the weather prediction for this week the snow falls have dropped right off, so we fluked it big time I reckon. The season is not over and I am sure there will still be snow around at that elevation - 1500m for a little while yet.
Don't be depressed gents, be inspired :-) ! Seasons up there seem of late to be getting longer and bigger dumps, the future is thick ;-)

Ta man , those 80series I was parked behind was the big group that went past as we came out that side rd , there was about 10 or so Toyotas of varying descriptions , old mate at the front put it in the drain & tried to drive it out - went about 100mts then ended up right angles to the rd at a culvert , as there was plenty of them there I went past & smiled & waved 😏
Really? We came across a stuck Toyota as well who needed some patrol power to get going again.

Snow driving will find I believe the 'Tail End Charlie' (Last Cars) really needing 'Mud Terrain' tyres or chains after lead vehicles ice compaction;-)
Are you hinting at a swift repeat trip this year? I am up for it, only weekend that is out is Father Day. Could prop where we just went or a bit further down the track/up the hill, as thats sitting about as high as you would get with the seasonal closures in place, then a bit of a drive explore as you guys did.
Would love to mate but works getting a bit hectic atm and the property needs some effort put in too.
Always have your most experienced snow plower lead the way https://youtu.be/C9exVx8j9B0
Looks easy but not actually, well done @MudRunnerTD :-)
Did you guys have a good feed of chicken legs?

Hmmm Bugger, Daz was right again, it does sound SH#T and I thought it was HIS new turbo echoing through them mountains:-)
Good mate :-) !
Is it too late tyo plan 2018 snow trip
Not at all, we don't even know what to do next...
Matty newby was keen to come down for the next one too but it's just so unpredictable for us getting good snow. This trip above was insane but we were so lucky!
Even a week or two either side of this trip would be a quarter of that snow.
I would be devo if we planned a trip and you interstaters got 10mm!
This trip was extremely roughing it, I think interstaters coming down with family would struggle on this trip which brings us back to a base camp with luxuries.
This Licola trip was lucky and pricing the other side of the mountain for cabins was pretty pricey.
We need to think about 2018 carefully if you guys are keen to make journey that's all to ensure we get good snow but family friendly too.

I have done some ringing around and the West side of the mountain is a little more expensive but the weekend we were in Licola with only a little sight seeing snow an hour or so away I had friends staying the other side that had 600mm of snow on the ground at their accommodation and 100mm of snow over night. I see the value in that.
i was talking to OD this weekend about licola and how good it looked.would be interested in doing and eatern trip with snow and family...
Must add that Licola's valley lower altitude warm base camp/cabins (plenty o wood) with surrounding tracks have seen some of the interstaters and my mob smiling a day or two at least after experiencing:-)
Apologies, all typing same time :-)
