Not a fan of the old radish. But each to their own tastebuds. lol.
Not planting any more vegies until the shade cloth goes up. Even with watering twice a day, the fresh veggies are dying.
Yum! I love radishes too.
I had a go at pickling them last year. The taste is great but they smell like farts haha http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...016/12/126.jpg

First water melon for the season. Weighs 14 Kgs.
Yum, I'd love to be able to grow something like that

I was surprised by the out come and was wondering when to pick it, as I`m use to growing pumpkins and waiting for the stalks to dry on them. Tastes great though and a quarter of it has gone all ready and better than the water melon my gf bought the other day from down the road. Might keep a few seeds for next year, as the ones I have are use by March 2016.
Picked in the morning, pickled by lunchtime. YUM! http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...017/01/153.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...017/01/154.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...017/01/155.jpg

I pickled some lime green capsicum, 4 Cayenne chilis, a tea spoon of peppercorns and let it sit for a couple of months.
I planted a punnet of caulis, broccoli, wombok (chinese cabbage), bok choy, peas, snow peas and red onions a couple of weeks ago. Thought it best to plant now, while there`s a bit of warm weather around, to give them a head start before winter sets in.
The frosts are already here so no planting for me for a couple of months

2 summers ago...should do more of it..now days i just grow bacon n sausages
Love eating the old Zucs, haven`t grown any for a few years.
Dug out about half the dirt in a section of the raised vege patch to day and put in half a bale of sugar cane mulch with 10 x 20 litre buckets of compost on top with one bag of each of cow and sheep manure. The reasoning is that the compost over flows due to too much dirt and it has served its purpose for the last 8 years. Watered it in and ready for the punnet of Womboks , silver beet and two punnets of beetroot. Picked the first pine apple a few days back and waiting for the other three to show up with some thing. Smells nice and ripe at the moment.
Only half the amount of Bok Choy that I picked to day, that have been washed and waiting to dry off enough before putting in to the fridge. Roughly two punnets worth, as a few had a double seedling in a cell. They`re good for as a filler when waiting for cabbage, cauli and broccoli to come on. Enough there to be a vegetarian for a couple of weeks.
Here`s what the two vege patches look like at the moment. Broccoli, cauli, celery, red onions, leeks, womboks (chinese cabbage), 3 zucs, 3 purple skinned sweet spud, 24 beetroot plants, pine apple that were planted 2 year ago, a couple of cheap brand snow peas out of a pkt of 20 and planted recently some climbing beens of some sort, bugle p/kin seeds, a few water melon seeds, which the other stuff should have been harvested by the time the melons / p/kins have grown up.
Far out, we're still getting frosts here haha

The `season` has come a month or two early for us in north Qld as I`ve heard. Further north have been getting a double crop of pine apples apparently. We`ve had rain here in Bundy that`s not usual for winter here apparently. Hoping the punnet of cauli flower that I planted a month or so after the other one makes it through to maturity.
Melbourne Cup is our time to plant, don't really have any frosts after that
................on the road
Frost this morning and the tap was frozen so I went around the back deck to get the watering can and came unstuck on the ice haha not veggie time yet

I wish I had another vege patch, as I`d like to start growing the veg ready for spring and summer before it gets too hot.
I wish the caulis hurry up and get a head, all ready picked the broccoli and left the stumps in to grow those broccolini / broccoli off shoots. Climbing beans of some sort have come up and the dwarf Borlotti beans have grown through and waiting for them to bush out.
Plutonium fertiliser!
