One vendor blaming the other is an old chestnut. Was with iiNet many moons ago but their support for issues was appalling. Moved to internode for many years and surprise surprise, since being bought by iiNet, great customer support went out the door again (they were really great up til then). Nowadays with Telstra on a cable plan which has been worry free, albeit it I miss all the unmetered goodies internode had.
My experience has been that in the main ISP's will always blame the other guy first off.
