Think it was just over half way... I think the factory needles do as they please and are not consistent at all.

Stoked with those results Jonathan! So glad your car is finally at the stage it should be
I think if I am still getting the vibrations when I come up to NSW I will get a few of you TD owners to have a drive and see what you think.
What vibrations and where?
Aaaaahh cable tyes mate thats what is missing tied along the sharft to balance it out
big black ones
Well the Australia day meet has come and gone and was a very good test to see how Bruce's heart transplant has gone...... I must say very well indeed.
The drive up was perfect with Growler and I both having accurate digital temp gauges and comparing notes and also comparing with AB's intercooler and Daz was overheating so not much to compare there.
My water temps were very good towing a trailer going up those long hills in NSW on a pretty hot day with temps peaking once at 99 degrees once and the rest of the time averaging 94 on the big hills.
Intercooler temps were never a problem but AB's one the day in that department with about 60 degrees on average cooler than Growler and myself.
The car was a smooth as a babies bum and I could not fault it.
On the drive home both water and intercooler temps were affected.. the water temps were about 2 degrees higher but still managed to not go over 99 degrees and the intercooler was the same but took longer to come down.. upon inspection the intercooler was blocked up a bit and the radiator will have to come out again to be cleaned properly as there is a fair bit of crap jammed around the bottom and the compressed air cannot get to it.
At the Meet up I did have some problems only to do with being a child and playing in the mud ... I snapped an alternator belt just as I got back to camp and wondered why I lost brake pedal and clutch and my first assumption was a vacuum leak.
When I replaced the belt (thanks to Winnie and offers from 500 others.) I must have pulled the small vacuum hose off and with higher revs brakes and clutch were not a problem but as I got home I had no brakes at all.
My rear brakes also got stuck on a number of time and after a couple of hits with a hammer they freed up but I am thinking the problem lies with the brake bias as it seems the rears are working way too hard and the fronts are not even warm when I check them?
I have just spent nearly 2 hours unpacking and cleaning the inside only and will head off to get filthy cleaning the outside...yuck!!
After this trip I am convinced of the TD42 with a turbo and would swear buy it.
As you have lifted Bruce a fair bit. Have you got an extension bracket for the bias valve in to compensate for the lift?
Also after my trip up, around and back from the Sapphire coast dragging a 1.4T camper I am also convinced of a TD42 and turbo, plus intercooler. Not that I needed convincing of that... Lol.
Good to see you came out with minimal issues.
yeah agree not 100% convinced the mighty ZD30 is right for towing anything over one tonne
When you lift it makes the bias valve higher and hence it doesn't work after all. Eg it thinks the back of the car is lifting under heavy braking so gives it less rear brakes so not too get a brake lock up.
If anything it would not be working at all with lift so sounds as if it's been over compensated or something weird going on with front callipers
I have that bracket fitted and after I put that hose back on the alternator (the little one) my clutch and brakes feel very good..
It may have been they were just so mud encrusted.
3 hours so far cleaning my car... I am glad I spent more time at Kris's cleaning under the car than worrying about the body as it made cleaning so much easier today.
@ BA figured out your fuel figures yet??
Pretty impressed by your engine mate, happy ending finally!!!
Check the brake calliper slides the car was sitting for a while so they could be seized.
After the pleasure of going for a drive in bruce, have to say very impressed. Motor is smooth quick and sounds very nice, good job jono George & matty + everyone else. Think it's fair to say it had a fair test on the weekend and jono had a bloody big grin on his face.
hey buddy have u got an pics of your highmount turbo setup please im about to put one on my old girl running the standard td turbo nothing flash. im just after pics of how and where u did you plumbing etc. cheers
Great write up mate and I'm glad you've got it all sorted! I'm keen for this drive, let me know when you're ready
Hey Jonno whats the update on the mighty 4.2 , still going strong???
did you have time to hook up the air-con yet ?
Would a manual brake proportional valve help your brake problem
plus finally is the vibration been sorted.
Can't wait to see it actually 4WDing in a few weeks =]
Car is great but hardly drive it as I have the bluebird. . Aircon is hooked up but not gassed up.
Vibration was more likely the oil feed line for the turbo hitting the body butmay have been the gear box mounts as I did the loosening of the mounts and putting the car into 5th gear trick but also adjusted the oil line at the same time.
The brake situation I have not looked at as yet as my priority has been renovations at home.. after one hell of a year of pretty much stuffing abour with my car a need to put my head down and sort this house out.... its all coming together and when I get a chance I do a little on the car plus I dont have the funds I use to.
Yes winnie I am stinging to leave for this trip mate.
Just reading Andyh's build thread, are you going down that VASS road' to keep it legal
otherwise your knackered insurance wise eh
Good bye and good riddance....

No it had to go back to Georges work shop so the wreckers can come past and pick it up..
Surprised they were not hassling for it long ago.
Yes ab there are some low life scum out there... I could never do that to someone.
I took the original gearbox (I am on my third) to scrap metal today and did ok.
My place is slowly getting there.
Yesterday bruce went on his first proper 4wd since becoming a diesel and my first 4wd since May last year.
Went out with George and Matt and did some bloody tough tracks.
Matt has a bunch of video from a big rock climb that bruce made look easy..lol
