Ha! I had just clicked on your post & waiting for it load (slow satellite this morning) & MrsTea called out from downstairs "There's a dingo out here". Second time one has been around close to the house in daylight. This time I went to get my camera, but it was too far away to get a pic by the time I saw it. A different one this time. Darker than the first, but just as big. No camels here though!:biggrin:

Back on the CSR, we like, & are used to travelling alone, but I think maybe travelling with one other vehicle might be wise on the Canning, especially if we are towing.

I remember petrol being around 3/6d (that's 35c for all you young guns) a gallon when I had my FJ Holden back around 1964. Not much diesel around in those days.

18 cents for a litre of LPG back in 94'. That was when owning a duel fuel V8 made sense.

Reckon I did score memorably LPG for a very short time in 1993/4 for my personal first FJ…..40 second hand at $0.08L when leaded was around $0.55L IIRC. Agreed Mudski Mate it was very worthwhile running gas on our guzzlers stable priced below $0.20 for many years thereafter. Could never understand why our Government then would only subsidise personal vehicles conversions to LPG by near 75% and never a single dollar for bulk work registered vehicles as many tried to grow their businesses ………..[emoji848]

Interesting. LPG (called here GNV for "Gás Natural Veicular") is sold here to this day in cubic meters. It seems that the same occurred over our countries. LPG conversion was subsidized, LPG was less then half the price of petrol to run the same range and then over the years the government lost interest in it. A lot of business that grew around the LPG conversion and even gas stations that invested tons of money to be able to offer LPG to their customers simply broke.

Here, where we have Diesel, Petrol, Ethanol and LPG at the pumps, it is being more cost effective to run Ethanol. LPG is still cheaper at the pump, but the amount one has to drive to break-even the conversion cost is not worth it. Specially when loosing space on the car trunk or on the truck bed to accommodate the new tank.

Ethanol has some downsides too. It's not really sustainable. I've heard of in-tank fuel pumps plastic melting and an acidic residue forming in the engine. This causes some metals parts to etch and be eaten away, unless coated in nickel (I think that is the right metal, but happy to be corrected).

Ethanol here is not used as a conversion from a petrol car. You run it on cars that left the factory ethanol ready, so no issues with metal reaction. On the old carby days, carbys were coated with nickel indeed. But this was honestly on the 70´s, so it has been a long way already and it is settled technology here.

You’d expect and budget for this in the True Australian Outback filling up your diesel sub-tank for safety longevity purposes. Never expected a Melbourne Sister City- Bendigo to rape us passing through enroute [emoji26]

Mine and many others, ‘Great Australian Dream’ was simply being able to afford exploring this HUGE Beautiful Country exploring/camping somewhat cheaply eating basic tucker/food carried along and or caught.
How is it even possible now for Young Local Legends starting out to potentially migrate to regions to join/assimilate Earn & Spend their little left over fuel money and ALL grow TOGETHER [emoji383][emoji26]

We're being bent over and probed with a barbed wire. Ive never been a fuel price hunter, i just fill up wherever without looking...
But for the first time ever ive been zipping around in the family Subaru and drive the TD only when necessary.
Young first year apprenty at work filling up his 80 with long range tanks equalled to over half a grand. Yes thats HALF A GRAND for full tanks of diesel.
And in the other hole we're being shafted by insurance. But thats another gnarly demon thats growing exponentially very quick...

I saw diesel for 2.98 today, and that's good buying. Most places it's already 3.14 and going up... Premium petrol's not much ahead.
Useless government.

It wouldn't be so aggravating if the price changed when new fuel was in the servo tanks. I dislike the fact we are paying more for the same fuel in the tans bought at old price and changing daily.
At least Ned Kelly held a gun when robbing you.

Ballarat isn’t that far behind MB, petrol is cheaper but both our cars are diesel. It’s certainly draining the granddaughters budget, being a second year sparky apprentice and having a daily commute of about 100km.
And remember that 22cpl price cut runs out soon enough.

What irritates me more than high prices is how fast it alternates.
Filled up our crane this morning @ 2.18 .
Glad I didn't pay that bill of nearly.350L.
This was the lowest I've seen it in a while ...
I reckon 2 hours later or so it was back to 2.34.
Literally the same pump !

You might find it's $1 per GALLON.
The last time I did the maths on their fuel prices, exchange rate etc, buying fuel in NZ would be like them paying $12/litre - and they were complaining gos it was pushing ONE dollar per gallon!

Nah the fuel prices in the USA are a fair bit lower than us. Although today maybe 20%cheaper there.

Try puttin 550lts a day in- that’s about $1200 worth, A DAY. My fuel bill has gone from About $15,000 a month to nearly $25,000. & whilst the government dropped 22c of excise & it took weeks for that to show at the pumps NEK MINNUT the pump price pretty much went straight back up to where it was. AND at the same time they dropped the excise they cut our fuel rebate For diesel by pretty much the same amount but somehow forgot to mention that part to the general public so Transport is gettin fucked in the arse big time. Any wonder so many companies have had enough & shutting down & sending their trucks to the auctions. ‘They’ rekn 60% of transport companies will be gone by Christmas- you rekn you’re dealing with parts/ grocery delays/ shortages now - you ain’t seen nothin yet my friends.

Our little garden supplies has had its highest turnover last financial just gone in four odd years but we’ve still unfortunately closed the fiscal year -$24k loss even after two price rises within 12 months 🥲
Our main NSW Redgum hauling contractor has mentioned his 60T runs have jumped from $4k per week to $7k fuel alone and completely understandably has to increase his service prices again ASAP [emoji26]
