Must make an awesome pattern similar to WM pics
I like the knives from railway spikes
They would be solid and hokd an edge.
Dad made 1 years ago out of an old power hacksaw blade and an M16 hilt / handle. Don't think he sharpened it in ivrr 20 years and can still take the hair off your hands lol
oncedisturbed its sounds great, but
:useless:
to TD knives from railway spikes will be brutal also as a sword from train rail for full set ! LOL
Here's a big arsed Bowie knife I've been working on. More like a small machete ;)
It's a bit amateurish but when finished hopefully look half ok. I've also got an old paper guillotine blade to make another one
Attachment 36103
Hey growler! Drill a slash on it and it will be even more brutal than
http://www.movie-poster.ws/movies/wa...bo/rambo-6.jpg
@ Growler give it a file back on the back of blade , gives a great look, handle never gonna come loose eh
@ OD received reply to my email from Ralph Cobb , he says its a KS98 bayonet the scabbard is M1871/84 or 1884/98 first pattern bayonet. His Words
@ Growler , heres some examples of the filed back option, just adds to a knife I reckon.
The pic with antler I'm some how going to fit that hidden tang Damascus.
The Bar is a Billet of Damascus $100 an inch , yeah pricey shite
Heres how the Redgum fillet knife come together
Chainsaw file did the detail work.
Finished buffing redgum on 8" grinder'
Last pic is Damascus before I etched it
Looks good TD. I got the right rifle but wrong year for you bayonet
wow that's amazing, I take it they were bolt action
@ growler heres that faux antler I was talking about,
you can see 4 steps
White notched one is camel bone, great for scrimshaw work
Antler bone one is for sale with a sheath must list whats for sale
got too many lying around
Some new editions to the collection
I've got an idea where a few are from, like me how many knives do you need lol
I will display some I suppose one day.
I like the Elk ridge knives. More a fixed blade guy
That peened look on the blade is the latest craze in
knives along with the filed back.
I'll grab some pics of my fully cast knives from China they just look weird
same as me. the 3 almost matching bowies I got more for curiosity due to the price.
the elk ridge are a nice knife, so is the rite edge spanish toothpick.
also scored a winchester stockman as well but haven't got a photo of it yet
Winchester bowie is cheap as chips around $50 I think
this one is a 2 or 3 blade folder - still waiting delivery. the frost anniversary congress folder i am waiting on as well and have read heaps of good reviews on them
Also like the stacked leather one, 2 pics one is the cast knife, looks like crap but great all rounder in the kitchen even slicing meat. looks like steel was smeared when hot.
second is railway spike I started but as only had a pot belly at the time I couldn't get the heat into it and the steel split. I now have a proper blacksmith furance
I would love a furnace to learn and make things but won't be happening anytime so unless I make a basic gas kiln
Sent from my iPad using Motorculture mobile app
Plenty of small gas furnace designs on the net,
Hopefully soon I'm getting a horse of an Anvil the guy says 3ft long at least
and the best part its free.so over 150kg, should have a nice ring to it, pic is one I have ATM
"U"bolts are off 4x4
Sweet, will do
Sent from my iPad using Motorculture mobile app
I get a pic of my furnace later, its from 1850s ish, has a cast iron buffalo hand blower on it.
Just fire it up with some charcoal [the good stuff] from the local Chicken joint, that generates plenty of heat.
Blacksmith coke costs a fortune,
@ OD heres my blacksmith forge/blower, old school yes but works a treat.
Be easy enough to make one I'd think with fire bricks some lpg burner ,and a vacuum cleaner
to blow the air
Some more to add
feeling 100% better, heres my upside down finger skinner.
The bone is cow Osso Bucco and the timber is burr Walnut. Needs brass pins inserted
a polish and acid dip the blade to etch out the pattern, looking ok so far ,would have looked better with a polished brass strip in between bone and timber
Will be good to see finished. I take it by mention of acid dip that it is damascus steel?
Glad you are feeling better :)
Yes its Damascus, found this site as well some very good knives IMO
having probs putting up link,
These Mosaic pins finish off a knife well.
other pic is from that site I cant seem to link
Have seen some nice mosaic pins recently. will be looking at using some when I start making knives.
I purchased 2 x Rough Rider Custom knife kits which just came in for Me and Munchkin to make up, approx 4" folding blade, brass bolsters and woodrain scales.
If need be down the track I have the blue prints for a 30" x 1" linisher, especially for knife making, can't buy them in Aus.
Surprised you went a folded knife as your first. My first was a Seki City which I ended up swapping Simon from 4WD TV
for some rock crawler gear 1/10th scale. That had a streaky buff horn scales {handle} with stainless pins. Pic is SEKI CITY
that looks nice. Defintely interested in the prints later on cheers TD.
Just bought a Frost 40th Anniversary Toothpick as well, just waiting delivery.
Get a buffing wheel for your bench grinder, great for polishing bone, wood, brass you name it.
Also found a B/D finger file a great tool as well. I use antique clamps to hold scales in place.
Save your offcuts then you can have multi materials on one side, be a bit wary of brass as it gets hot and melts glue. Pic is of one I wont sell as made it from Billet Damascus bar
very nice indeed
This link is for Mosaic pins

Some are used for a lanyard , but like I said finish a knife off nicely,
These ones are very affordable compared to some I've seen
Just picked up a cheapie set from Anaconda more for curiosity for $20.
A liner lock, fixed blade and a whittler (baby trapper)
The more I read this thread the more I'm liking it.
I've always liked knives but never really thought of making or collecting.
I've just jumped on the Australian Blade Forum and holly shoit those boys can make a knife.
I've been reading about steel supply. Turns out I'm onto a good thing in the saw Mill.
The blades we use range from 2.5mm to 4.5mm. From reading there a good size.
I have 2 1.5mOd discs 4.5mm thick in storage ready for chopping up, If you guys would like a biting can part Off some.
Quick q on cutting it. I was going to use the 9" grinder. Ya or na??
Also any good links for a beginner is appreciated.. :D
I was going to get the shape cut with my Laser bloke, but its not necessary
You will need to heat treat it later to harden it, so you really need it soft to work,
shape drill holes ect, I cut the shape using 5" grinder, Bench grinder and linisher.
A 9" grinder is fine.
I'll do another Damascus Knife from scratch soon and you can watch progress,
maybe a sticking Knife
Awesome. Will watch for sure
Just been watching trollskyy..
I think I'm hooked..
Loved the basic look. Serenity the prettiest but a cool touch.
Bloody 2 hours on a file. Think I'll be getting a linisher soon. Lol
I use 2 one that doesn't spin that quick and stands on it own,36" x 4"
then I brought another 8" grinder and fitted the linisher to that.
As with an earlier post I have the blue prints for 30" x 1" linisher [Upright]
Cant buy them here, but a must for shaping handles, you might see them on U tube videos.
