Day 2,
Up and about around 9am, coffe smoke and fire up the bbq for another stapple of bacon and eggs as we plan our route for the day....Plans, Ha like thats gunna work. Pack the eskies in the Trol and off we go.
All roads to the planned route closed due to flood damage or fallen trees, so we made our route as we drove, first thing is to find dirt and it wasn’t long before we did weaving our way through the Grampians to the top seeing some great views and plenty of wildlife, and I tell ya the hoppers jump out of nowhere onto the road right in front of you and they don’t move either, you go around or through. Checked out McKenzie Falls, Rieds lookout and the Balconies among others.
Then time to head back to camp....Doh only one problem. All roads down the mountain were closed. Bumped into many tourists trying to get back down. Couldnt do a lot to help them unless they were prepared to follow us......No takers so off we went for another 3 hour drive through the bush by twilight, soon turned dark as we soldiered on coming across road after road closed with trees across them everywhere, we kept back tracking until we finally found a track that bypassed all the crap. Our 3 hour drive by dusk turned into a 4hr dive by night. Finally never thought I would say this, but with main tank drained and sub with only a few drops it was so good to see the black top. Yeeeh back to camp, to late to fire up bbq so the girls whipped up a couple of platters and the guys cracked a few bevy’s, then a few more, dribble dribble about the day and day done.. Night all.
