Thanks for the reply cluck but no luck. Does anyone know if exhaust gas was leaking from the egr it would cause my car to rev out under more pressure?

Id say its revving out more because its getting fresh air now rather than a mix of fresh and soot filled air.
Guessing it's an auto?
Di or crd?
Any gauges?
When blocking the egr you get a slight increase in turbo spool up, due to now 100% of exhaust gas going threw the turbo..
This sometimes causes limp mode, if the turbo spools up too quickly or its picked up no flow in the egr.. both can throw fault codes..
Try drilling a small 6mm hole in the blacking plate.
A smear or stag paste or gasket goo to make a new seal, disconnect battery with lights left on for a couple of hours to reset the ecu.
The 2.8's wont go into limp mode due to the EGR blocked. So drilling a hole will be pointless. But if it is leaking at the plate, check the surfaces to make sure they are flat, gasket goo as mentioned may help. The RD28 EGR valve is vacuum controlled, not electronic. So disconnecting the battery may be pointless. But its worth a shot.
And to add. The RD's have a pressure relief valve on the intake manifold, because you have blocked the EGR, boost pressures will be higher so all that extra pressure may just be going out the relief valve. I have heard of people removing this valve and blocking the port on the manifold. But you will also need to install a manual boost control valve then to control your boost pressure.
Having said that I feel this may be your issue.
Thank you for all the replys guys, got some copper gasket silicone today so i might pull it to pieces tonight and glue it up. Next will be a manual boost controller, gauge and egt if it doesnt work.
