My factory i/c sweated oil even at normal boost. Over a period of time it ran down the engine and dripped near the flywheel area, looking like a major issue and making me wonder how many $s I was going to need. I replaced it with a tigged i/c but a standard, not bigger or better flow or boost or anything. No change in performance but cleaner motor and less heart palpitations.Quote:

My intercooler was already leaking when I bought the car (110,000km)and it was stock standard. Boost was also maxing out at 15 psi on the scangauge so no over boost problems. The Nissan Patrol intercoolers are rubbish and will fail on a stock vehicle. Same thing has happened to a couple of mates with stock ZD30's.
When the new cross country intercooler was fitted the car ran much better and I had a lot more power down low as the intercooler was not leaking. The turbo could still get the pressure up in the old intercooler but not at lower rpm. Car was transformed. :)
Not sure how much of the change was the bigger intercooler vs having no leaks in the system. I see this primarily as a reliability upgrade and any extra performance is a bonus.
