Yep you need a permit to drive anywhere. If taking the MiCat you can do this upon arrival at the terminal (though they'll do most of it when you book anyway).
You can buy unleaded fuel only at Bulwer, but it's $60 for a 20l jerry can (and no you don't get to keep the jerry can for that :P), so fill up at the Caltex just prior to the ferry terminal if taking the MiCat.
If you camp near Bulwer, you can have hot showers for $2 from memory and use the toilets there and as previously mentioned bay side is more protected, and has some mobile coverage to upload the bikini photos to Facebook ( or here :P). Camping grounds from memory some areas require to be booked, others don't need to be.
Also, join Moreton Island Adventures on Facebook, they frequently post deals like $100 return trips (at this time of year) to fill up the barge. Their site should list the normal costs for 4WD and trailers:

I like staying near Castaways at Bulwer - the hot chips are great, so handy to throw on some steaks and get some chips for dinner - prices surprisingly aren't that bad at Castaways (well could be worse) they also sell some grog should you forget/run out.
When did they start selling fuel again?
So its literally selling a fuel in a 20 ltr lmao just read it here.

Yep - and unleaded only, unless they've added diesel since - doubt it though.
And at $60 for 20l, makes that $3/litre (may have even gone up since).
All I can say is "WOW" never expected it to be that expensive, and to think if It was fraser... it just gets more expensive again!!! I think I may have to look at the numbers and make a decision on wether it should be Bribie (has a bridge and thus alot cheaper), or Moreton (May have to end up eating what I can catch) or Fraser (again with the decisions as I will have to sell at least one of the kids) now...
Rainbow beach/ tewantin is a nice cheap alternative and more to see and better than bribie IMHO. Inskip is also good and dog friendly! Fraser can be cheaper than moreton if you go via inskip but you use more fuel on the drive and pay island prices.
