No point washing the alternator out as the internals will be covered in mud.
Present it as clean as possible though,
Might want to upgrade to a bigger one while its out.
Do as Mudnut says remove the belt and give it a spin

I run a 100 amp alternator that keeps all my electrics sorted to replace it cost me $300 odd and that's a tb42s as well
I posted the wrong initials for the grease. It is Mx8 not LM8.
I use 120 amp alt and also have a spare.... there is a holden one that is an easy mod but I cant remember what out of now??
