Took Mrs mudsane out to the Swan Lake sand dunes via Mt Richmond National Park. It was good to get the Ol' Trol into 4 low. We checked out the condition of the camping grounds at the dunes. All the water at the entrance to the dunes has gone, and the camps is all dry. Swan lake is the lowest I have seen it for many years.
My family and another group, were on the opposite bank, watching the elephant seal having a snooze on the edge of the tidal creek in town. An old bloke in a kayak, paddled serenely past us and the seal. It woke up, saw him, huffed, snorted and began a slow chase. We had to tell the paddler, that the seal was going after him. The old fella went pale, turned around and hurried back to our spot, jumped out of the kayak and climbed the bank. Luckily the seal just slowed and began huffing and baring his teeth at the intruder. It was amazing to see just how huge the animals head was. Mrs mudsane drove the old bloke back to his car so he could retrieve his kayak. I will upload pics when I find a USB cord.
He paddled past, looking at us. He wasn't aware that the big stone on the bank was a seal.
He bloody knew it when the seal let out a big huff and swam at him!
Holy shit that’s a big fella!! I’d be walking on water mate! Haha
Yeah, Plassy. The pics don't do it justice. Its eyes are about the size of a juicy valencia orange!
He really did get pissed off at being disturbed. I only had the standard lens fitted so you can see how close he came. A couple of us went closer to the kayaker to help him up if the seal went to rush at him. As it was, the seal calmed down as soon as the kayak was out of the water.
Got a decent GT scoop happening too! :D
It was amazing to see how such a big animal was so agile in the water. Effortlessly catching up to the intruder in seconds.
Not exactly today, but last weekend.
Nothing beats a saturday arvo working on the GQ having a cold beer, right? But wait! What if this time it was on my new stubby holder? Courtesy of legends @Plasnart and @AB ! Thanks a lot mates! I really appreciate the gesture!
Cheers from Brazil!
