On the ends of the tubes where they face forwards.

Thought about that, but going to use black plugs that can be removed if needed and clean them out/respray kill rust in there - putting a "joining plate" on the inside of them to strengthen, then running a support arm back to the chassis (running from the bar, east/west across the car back to chassis) - with me??
Looking good buddy keep up the good work.
Looking good there.
Hey congratulations to you! Your build just became the most view build on this forum....lol took a year but nice work..;) I'm still 40 pages behind you though! lol.
Now back to your bar....
looks a treat. I am a bit lost as to where you were looking to spray the expansion foam? as i read it the same as Tony that you were going to fill the ends in facing forward and sand them off? but your reply to Tony indicated that you are going to cap them?
I am with Tony, i would be welding a plate on them, you have the welder out so it is no boggy and would finish it off much nicer! And, You never need to go back in there again! the caps would be pointless? you have no need to access that space?
I relation to the Expanding foam...
I use an industrial grade polymer Resin very similar to the "Expanda Foam" for work every day. http://www.uretek.com.au/pages/home.asp The difference between what you get in a can and what i use is immense but the similarities will be enough to give you some guidance.
You will find that its not UV stable and will break down over time exposed to the elements.
Being exposed you may also experience some shrink back and although you will finish it nicely it may shrink back over time and look kinda crappy for that application.
It has a fairly high compressive strength but bugger all sheer strength ie. you will poke a stick into it really easily.
The material out of a can will have a very high free rise expansion and a very low free rise density. ie. it will be fluffy, holey and crappy once you crack through the crust. Its primary aim is as a VOID filler. It does this well at a domestic level.
Its a great insulator and will help with boyancy but as an exposed end barrier ??? Nah! it aint gunna do that. ;)
Weld plates on i reckon. thats what i did.
Well that kinda sux!.
You would have found it to be a bloody mess! lol Thats funny. Kinda!
If you got it on your clothes it is NEVER coming off.
Expanding foam is not something you should be playing around with without proper PPE which at a minimum should be nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
The activating agent is Isocyanate and it is very nasty stuff.
Your hands will likely be stained for a few days and it will wear off over time. Use a bit of Solvol but you will likely still have some residue for a day or 2.
Glove up!
Anyone using this stuff in the future for any application should Always Glove Up and wear Splash Proof Eyewear. It IS NASTY Stuff.
nice start to the proceedings Scotty, looking forward to seeing the end results mate.................... I'm with Tony and MR with welding up the Pipes facing forward, will look much neater...............
Thanks champion - going to have a go at playing up the ends of those bars - you and Tony have been very convincing!!! LOL!!
Not sure what to do with that space yet (between the plate and the black rubber bump stop on the back end) but no doubt will think of something ...
Well ... what a day ... have all the bar work done - just need to rip them back off tomorrow and grind down the welds etc - can't finish them until the chop is done to the quarter panels on Monday [have to wait till it's cut to be able to put the side support bars back to the chassis], and once that is done, will paint them up and stick em on permanent like!!! lol So still some work to do yet, but these shots will give you the idea ... should look awesome once cleaned up, painted and with the rear chop chop done!
Thanks dhuck for your little japanese like hands - invaluable!! LOL - You were a great help mate, greatly appreciated!!!
Top bar - 60mm OD tube - set and aligned to allow us to measure up the angle etc for the bottom tube [48mm OD]

Both plates attached, and top bars welded in place ..
Attachment 4987
Passenger side bar work done ...
Attachment 4989
Another shot with the rear bumper rubbers placed back on to show how they'll sit - couldn't get two of the bolts out that snapped the other day [bent the ezy out!!], so will need to get them drilled out and re-tapped.
Attachment 4990
Both bars complete [with the bumper rubbers again just sitting in place to give an idea of the look]
Attachment 4991
So far, so good ... thoroughly worth doing yourself if you get the chance. Will post up some pre and post chop chop shots on Monday once done, and then get the brace/support bars done to hold the sides in place and paint those bad boys up and install once and for all ...
Looks supa cool mate!! Was it the bottom bolts that snapped. I snapped one of mine so drilled both bottoms out all the way to the other side and put longer bolt in.
Top stuff buddy, i'll have to start some more mods on my old girl to catch up. lol.
I rekon you can get to the top nut as well so might be a cheaper option
looking pretty good so far mate, ever thought about tapering the ends of the pipes to mimic the contour of the rear wheels? You can tell me to buggah off if you like !!!! hahahahaha
First coat of paint on the bars after cleaning up the welds etc ... very excited - they're going to look great me thinks!!

Hi Scotty. Did you contemplate getting them Powder Coated ??. They would look fantastic but not sure about chips. Would resist scratching
I think I did a bloody great job. lol
I have to have a dig from time to time big fella. You consistantly dig you, you, you (family friendly comments fail me). Seriously we did good. But you are sill impatient. You still have more welding on them to do before painting.
Angle grinder story angle grinder story dont tease tell the angle grinder story hahahahhahaha
I stuffed a cut
From Scotty's poor inconsistant marking with a lead pencil on black steel
Well Im Listening ...............What Happend Really ......the Truth Guys ????
Cmon do tell both versions then we can judge hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
