sounds good Mat. Make sure you stay with this forum so we can all see Australias fastest SWB GQ potentially using rb26dett goodness:):):)

Yeah mate will do. I haven't drove it in ages let alone took it swimming. Had the clutch go so it's in getting a Exedy HD one put in, should have the carby tuned before it comes home also. The new 35's still haven't turned up either :( I'd be keen for one last dip with the new tyres on just to see how good it goes with good tread.

You can always pop up home for a play. Its a good testing area.

Thanks Lucas... So, I went to pick up the patrol last night from having the new clutch installed and I made it no more than 5 mins up the road and huge clouds of smoke bellowing from the patrol. Pulled over to see what had gone wrong this time... Oil pissing out from around near the dizzy, so I call my mechanic and get him to come out and have a look at it. He thinks it's either the O Ring that seals the dizzy to the head, timing belt cover leak or head gasket. We called for a tow truck from RACT but they sent the Service van instead, they cleaned up the oil and filled the sump with oil again to see if they could get it to blow oil out and find the problem. No oil came out and THEY decided that driving it back to the workshop and see if and oil came out would be "better" than going and getting the tow truck. So I drove it back and made it about half way before what seems like the Heater exploded inside the cab sending coolant EVERYWHERE. So then they towed it back from where it died.
What I'm left thinking now is if the heater has exploded, shouldn't they have to fix it for free as it was their idea for me to drive it back. My mechanic suggested just bypassing it as I am looking at selling it. I don't want to because I've had a car without a heater and it's damn shite. it's a problem caused by driving the patrol back instead of towing it back like I had rang for in the first place.
What do you guys think I should do?

I would certainly look into it further! Definitely need a car with a heater down in Tas hey!

Ok a couple of advances since last time. Patrol only had a blown head gasket, looks like the last person to have the head off didn't seat it 100% and something with the valves also. I have purchased another GQ for $1,500 with everything I need like a heater core and an unmodded chassis and suspension that I can use to get my GQ mod plated.
I have also maybe sold my falcon ute so I'll have some cash floating around... Thinking of buying a r33 skyline or just a half cut and doing a RB25det conversion.
So in the very near future I will be doing a body swap, Engine conversion, mod plate for said mods. So in the end I could be keeping my GQ and all will be well :)

can't wait to see how this thing turns out :D

That sucks about the head gasket but probably good in the end if your able to build a "legal" trol. Keep us up to date:)

The new rig:

Attachment 21647
It's had a hard life but that's ok, none of this one will live on apart from the chassis and the heater core :) it will probably be put back together using the left overs from the body swap and sold :) it also came with some home made rock sliders 75% complete (just needs one side welded, another tb42 for parts, other assorted parts. Not bad for $1,500 :)
