Well its been a while but i finally got around to building my snorkel. It was good to finally get rid the flexi pipe embarassment!!
I wanted to use the brutal bolts that the previous owner had put in. So it took a while to sort out some brackets that would work....
Heres the stainless brackets i found. I got a mate to shave a nut (lol) and weld it into the bracket leg.
Heres the existing bolt.
Next i made a connector for the flexi pipe....
I widened the hole from the 2" to a bit over 3" by slicing with tin snips and folding back.
I scavenged a door seal from an old car to put around the hole. A bit of galv paint on the inside and a big wad of silicone.
The finished product. I was really happy with the nice snug fit through the gaurd.
I just have to buy a couple more hose clamps tomorrow.
YAY now i have a snorkel to be proud of!!
Big thanks to AB's DIY thread that got me inspired (albeit nearly a year ago!!!)
:thumbup::thumbup:
All nice and pretty Lucas, but does your gearbox make the 4b go forward and backward yet like it should??? *LMAO*
........you had to bring that up didnt you!!! Just when i was feeling happy!!..............So NO, i havent managed to fix it yet. Will be putting an extra earth strap on it today
Just a bit of a rundown on the bits i used:
Stainless brackets............................... $9 each
Stainless nuts .....................................40 cents each.
Welding nuts into brackets....................Free
3" rubber 45 degree elbow...................$27
3" rubber 90 degree elbow...................$14 (why is that cheaper than a 45 degree one?)
Truck style hose clamps.......................$6 (still need 2 more)
3" to 2" rubber step down....................$3
3" stainless pipe 2X 800mm...............One length freeby from a mate, other length $38 per metre (me and a mate bought a 6 metre length and it worked out less than half price per metre)
Rubber strip free from an old wrecked car
white PVC pipe freeby lying around the shed
Feeling of getting rid of the old flexi pipe embarassment and running tuff as stainless pipe.........................PRICELESS!! lol
Bit better than my 1st snorkel, PVC downpipe and elbows LOL
