where do you buy the gas bottles from? I rent from BOC, do they sell them as well?
Around $65/qtr and I might not do any welding for 6 months, so yeah, it's money for nothing. How much are the E size bottles?

Here in QLD I paid $479 for each full bottle and $159 each refill so basically $320 outlay per bottle initially.

Yesterday a parcel arrived from Ali Express. I bought a syringe for crosspieces. I've already done everything today.

Being a pressure vessel, yes they do. Whilst you buy and own 'the bottle' its at your discretion as to whether you refill it specifically and retain that bottle or simply do a swap out. You can buy brand spanking new bottles also instead of from a fleet. I will check the expiry on mine in due course and ensure it is swapped out before expiring just in case there is some push back. At the end of the day its a straight forward process to get the bottle retested and re-certified also, costs about $50 from memory.
Hey Phil, were do you get bottles recertified? I've got a bottle, the shape of which I've never seen anywhere, it is old, at least 30, maybe closer to 40 years.
I just rang the supplier of the my bottles, Speedigas in NSW. They distribute from NSW. They said the bottles have an expiry date, waiting for a return call on what that is, however because they only do a gas bottle exchange process, the bottle you buy has already been retested and certified each time its refilled by them. the manufacture date must trigger some internal company processes to then do further thickness testing after some period, say 10 yrs , at a guess. They did however clear up a discrepancy re the gas bottle ownership program in that I cannot get that bottle specifically refilled as they don't have a refill facility in VIC, all their bottles get refilled and tested in NSW, trucking back and forth across the country.
I asked about the process of exchange or retesting of any gas bottle, and they only would accept a Speedigas bottle on an exchange program. If its from one of the other 4 gas suppliers, elgas, boc etc, they would likely take the bottle as an exchange, and then carry the risk of it being servicable or not, or reject it outright and refuse to swap it. i think I would simply ring around and find the right person to clarify the test process. It wasn't that difficult, but the cost is the new valve head, visual internal inspection and then if they hydrotest it or not or ultrasonic thickness testing - each probably has their own process. i will revert when I have details on the perceived life of a bottle, but for unfired pressure vessels, its a combination of wall thickness and wall thickness degradation over time and thats about it - if the wall thickness falls within the guidelines and it holds pressure, good to go. I think you might have to take one on a rental program, but could be wrong. At a minimum I would spruce it up a bit before swapping it out!
Thanks for that info, appreciate the help.
And here you can only write about the tool that you bought or you can show the tool that you made yourself?
I made a sandblast out of an old freon cylinder.

Just be a wee bit careful on the high quality 304HC stainless ones, the Kinchrome tool kit may break a handle if your hole size isn’t exactly to spec or slightly greater as they’re a lot tougher them stainless ripper serts Mick kindly suggested [emoji106][emoji106]

Crikey, that’s a bargain Mick [emoji106][emoji106]
TBH, our pneumatic work guns are so temperamental tuning in, thinking about going some Kinchrome’s too for on-site needs.
FWIW: Back in the olden days [emoji23] We used simply a bolt/nut/washer/grease/washer then our RivNuts at the end of line.
Hold the bolt hard with Vicegrippies and Shifter crank the top nut down compressing the RivNut to death, slow and sucks but works [emoji23][emoji106][emoji106]

Milwaukee 18v Sabre Saw & 18” Demolition blade to the rescue again [emoji23]
Stumbled across some ‘Variety Bash’ Charity Legends between Woods Point & Jamieson this afternoon.
One in front of the VH General Lee accidentally stoved his front end in hindering all further Fundraising steering :-(

Used my rivet nut tool this past weekend. Why did I wait so long before I got one of these things.
Only thing to watch is not over stressing the threads when you pull them up. I installed some hinges on the 60l engel this weekend and used the riv nut set, like you have, and got a bit casual with the amount of pull up force and stripped one out. Took 5 mins to drill the bugger out then, lucky i could, if space was limited could have been another PeeBee cluster self generated. Best thing though.
haha, it's only a matter of time before I do that.
On what I was doing on the weekend, I measured and measured and took my time and still cut too much off something I had to shorten, now I've gotten lengthen it so I can secure it. Bloody amateurs.
FWIW:
If you find you’ve accidentally stripped one (Rivnut) fastest way to remove it we’ve found is to simply grind the head down slowly until it pops off like a washer.
Doesn’t seem to affect the surrounding paint but its only downfall is the internal part of the RivNut has a new forever home inside floating around if it’s a sealed cavity.

Rivnut nutsert users: if youre stripping them you are using aluminium ones, bad mandrels, or you have forearms like Popeye. Lay off the spinach or go Stainless :) :)
