What did you buy today

I'm loving it so far, getting used to all the driving "safety" aids, it just takes an open mind and a slight change in driving style. You'd have to try pretty hard to crash it.
I plan on getting my moneys worth out of these 20" tyres and then when it's time for a new set probably change to a set of nicer looking 18" with mild all terrains.
This is the Mrs daily and will do some caravan trips and touring. It is not replacing the Patrol, it's not even playing the same game as my Patrol.
Value for money in the current market you cannot go wrong, and if you plan on keeping a new 4WD for a long time the Isuzus are the only option with a long term tried and tested engine in the 4JJ.

Yeah eleccy. If you take them off I would mind trying them out to make sure i like them before I decide if thats ok.

Is that a DX, Vinyl interior and the bench style passenger seat? Thats how all the utes are isn't it?

When I fitted the two singles & centre console (from an ST) into my DX (& removed the 1.5 bench seat taking it from a '3 seater' to a two seater) I took it to VicRoads as was supposedly required. Lady there looked at me kinda strange, but came out, stuck her head though the window & said (& I quote) "Yep, that's two seats". When I asked for proof that the seat change had been inspected by VicRoads I was told that it wasn't possible because they don't record the number of seats on the rego certificate. In short they say you should have them check it, but it's only meaningless words.

Yeah i think it only matters if the variant didnt come like that. As the GU Ute came as a 2 or 3 seater it probably doesnt matter,

I am looking at a GVM Upgrade and Lift fir the Y62 now and am advised by OnTrack that if i want to fit out the back now and remove the 3rd row seats prior to the lift then the Engineer would be obliged to Engineer it as a 5 Seater moving forward rather than a 7 Seater. If i do this i have to remove the seat belts as well and can not sell it in the future as a 7 Seater. Not sure i care but am chewing over that now.

@mudski do you have the 3rd row in your GU? Did your Engineer comment when you had yours Engineered? I think Matty might have to grab the rear row seats for the GU when we finally get it transferred. Will he need them in for RWC?? Surely Not?

I might have bought something labelled RedArc today.... Im Bleeding profusely right now though.

I had to remove the belts when the seats came out for the rear drawers and engineering for the GQ. The removal of the seats gave me more effective room capacity wise. Allows fitment of the cargo barrier as well as you cant have one in a 7 seater i was told. I cant see why the seats cannot be reinstalled down the track, with the seatbelts and it get swapped back to a 7 seater, but its going to be expensive as the whole car needs to be re-done - at least that is what 2 VASS engineers have told me.

Buying New changes the rules a little. So i am looking at an Upright Fridge. the 3000W will run an Induction Cooker cause.......Farkit I Can! Might pull a Coffee too. lol

I have just upgraded my 3000w to another 3000w Renogy and the coffee machine likes it better. Was relatively cheap for full sin wave at $480 I thought, could not get my head around the $3300 for the Redarc.

Fair enough - an induction cooker would be nice. Mate has one in his expedition Canter. FWIW he went through several before finding one he liked.All the cheap ones had poor heat control (ie. full on/full off) but he ended up with one as controllable as gas, & which draws less amps on lower settings, but it wasn't cheap. Around $800 IIRC. If you haven't already , you might need to check that the Lithiums you got are able to provide sufficient current. Not all are, with some limited to 50amps continuous.

No I removed the seats and belts for the engineering. It was engineered as a five seater, which in turn gave me an 160kg's on my GVM. I got rid of my 3rd row seats soon after I bought the Patrol.
If I were Matty. I would hide the 3rd rod seat belts. Easy done just tuck the belt behind the pillar cover, its what I did. Go get the roady and not say anything. Chances are they won't say anything. If they do, worry about it then. Getting 3rd row seats will be cheap as they are a hard thing to sell. No one wants them.

Ordered a Marks 4WD hydrobooster kit yesterday.
Earlier in the year I did the DBA slotted rotors, new master cylinder (same as 4.8) and all stainless braided lines to go with the ECB Yellowstuff pads I already had but I was a bit underwhelmed by the result.
I didn't want to go the bigger rotors/calipers route with bigger rims, etc

Am amazed that you were a bit underwhelmed with the EBC pads! Did you follow their bedding in instructions to the letter? Maybe the DBA rotors are somehow less effective than the RDA Slotted & Dimpled rotors that I have with them - can't see why that should be though??? What is the hydrobooster kit?

I just fitted this to my TD42 on the 13th March along with the braided brake lines.

I'm taking the car away for a trip this weekend, so I'll have a chance to drive it for an extended period with it loaded up.
First impressions after fitting it and it is noticibly different. That's with my standard rotors/pads (not sure of brand, came with the car).

The EBC pads were an improvement on the Bendix stuff but, with my GVM upgrade, I run permanently around the 3.2t and I just don't find the braking adequate without more than average pedal pressure applied. My 76 year old legs want the Patrol to brake like our Kia Sorento :)

The "overseas manufactured" RDA are cheaper rotors than the DBA and the dimples actually do nothing in our Patrol typical usage.

Yes I wouldn't say that ours (GVM upgrade 3.9t & drum brake rear - so RDA/EBC only on the front) brakes like a modern lightweight car, but the difference between this set up (including stock brake hoses) & the OEM set up is chalk & cheese. It changed the car from unsafe to safe. I don't have to use huge pressure on the pedal, but certainly more than was required in my wife's little Mitsubishi mirage which only needed a very light touch on the pedal. I did think that I might want to fit braided lines, but to be honest I think it's 'good enough'. We travel at around 5 tonnes with the Tvan hooked up & changed from Greenstuff to Yellowstuff pads only because they tolerate greater heat on long downhills without fading. Stopping performance seems about on par with the Greenstuff pads.

I will be interested to hear your evaluation of your new setup.

I’m running the RDA/EBC all round with Yellowstuff pads, I rate the combination highly. Followed the bedding in instructions to the letter (as recommended by Cuppa). Had a good workout before Xmas when I descended the Adelaide Hills, with the fully loaded van and car being close to maxed out. Had to jump out of the heavy vehicle lane several times due to 10kph being just to slow, then had to use the brakes several times.
Got to the traffic lights at the bottom with trepidation (after reading all the official and unofficial warnings), not a problem. Stopped flawlessly with no shudder or fade.

When towing we got stung with that Adelaide hill at the bottom, with a long traffic jam. Our set of new, but bedded in Falcon front discs warped because of the uneven heat sinking. Bugga!
