Thanks Roofy, you're the man!
Just came back from the big smoke (1400k round trip) to get our batteries sorted and check the chip. All OK NOW.....but earlier!!!
Will post the out come in the Cooked battery thread.
Getting very excited now. Our trick next week is to train up the guy who is going to help look after our business while we are away and do stock take!!
Who's idea was it to go at the end of the financial Year?.....lol
So a very busy next week!! and not even holiday related!!
This week have to be all packed and ready to go.
As some of you guys are travelling together do you know (or guess) where you might be Saturday night 28th?
Hey snicko I'm seeing Darren on the weekend at the expo and ill get back to you on that unless he sees this in the next day or two.
Saturday night we will be either turning up to Dalhousie absolutely buggerd or somewhere on the Stuart one day away if we take the Stuart but ill get back to you mate.
We were going to head up the Oodnadatta. Given we will be grouped then probably play by ear. I have stayed at Coward Speings before and also Oodnadatta Road House but would be keen to just probably get it done. It will really depend on the condition of the Oodnadatta. Will probably roll into Dalhousie and set camp then head to Mt Dare for fuel and a Desert pass for me.
Roofy when are you plan ing to hit Dalhousie mate?
All good, everything turned up today so I can finally get it all finished.
Spoke to someone at work today who had just come down the Oodnadatta track from the Finke race. Sounds like it was a bit wet up there and a some roads were closed for a couple of days, but it's all good now. Hopefully it stays dry and open.
I've stayed at Coward Srpings before and it's defiantly a worthwhile stopover. Planning on staying there depending when I get on the road. See how we go might be able to meet up there even.
Hi Guys,
I was having a good look at the map last night and pretty keen to do a couple of the Southern tracks across (Rig Rd, WAA Line) can people please indicate how much fuel they will be carrying?
I will have 175Lt under the car and looking to take at least 1x20lt on the roof. May consider taking 2 Just incase. Please let me know if you are carrying less that 175lts please?
Also, i can confirm that the Oodnadatta is smooth and graded and will not slow us at all.
I am looking to return to Melbourne via the Corner Country (QLD, NSW, SA) then down through Broken Hill. This will likely add a day or 2 to the return trip. (last time when we did the Madigan we did 2 massive days in the car and drove Birdsville to Geelong in 2 days) No real need to do that. The trip through Broken Hill will be dependant of the roads being open as they close them if there is light rain.
I can Confirm that there is No Fires allowed at Dalhousie but no restrictions once into the desert park. I have a friend that was there at Easter and had little trouble finding fire wood on the WAA line but i would still like us to carry our own guys. Please all bring a Bag of Wood (Servo bag or similar) then we can always have a good sized fire that 20 can sit around.
I will have 170L under the car and a jerry can on the roof.
176 under 25 on top
would think kat and steve the same
i will be ok 215 ltrs under, altho mine is thirsty with the bigger turbo etc.
237 litres down the back... but I'm not crossing the Simmo with you guys (at this stage anyway)
Hmmm... sounds like I need to bring my darts and a magnifying glass.
I'll have my Camper so will probably tag along for the first day maybe two and then about face back to Dalhousie.
Then I have a decision to make;
Rig Road and meet you guys at B'ville, or
Oodnadatta/Birdsville tracks and meet you guys at B'ville, or
Bail out and do Chambers Pillar, Alice, West Mac's, Alice, south to the Painted Desert and home.
Why not just go through the desert?
I am pretty confident we can make it interesting enough for you ET. I am looking at th Southern tracks to head across for a bit more of a challenge and less traffic hopefully. Still pretty straight forward but just a nicer trip.. Maybe 2 days to Poppels Corner then into Birdsdville.
I will post up a timing itinary in the next few days but I think everyone will have a blast.
I am also really excited about the trip home via the Corner Country, Innaminka and Broken hill. Hopefully it does not rain and the tracks are open.
This will be a great trip mate. Given you want to do Chambers Pillar after I would maybe do the crossing with us to Birdsville then have a dinner at the pub to celebrate then I'd head south on the Birdsville tk and pig up the rig rd and head across again.
Chambers Pillar is certainly worth the detour and then Painted desert.
MR when do you think you will make broken hill? I may join you if I can get back here by the 10th.
Will see what the timing is like when we get to birdsville.
Winnie, TD...
Won't bother using quotes as it will clog up the thread but essentially I'll make up my mind at the council of war at Dalhousie.
My prime objective was always to "meet up in the middle" as part of a 4 to 6 week trip either side of that date which is why I'll have my camper in tow.
Heaps of options which is why I haven't made my mind up yet... just looking forward to meeting up at the moment
Yeah no worries ET. Will be good to meet you regardless.
1 and a half more days of work to go!
Did I mention I cannot bloody wait to go on this trip!!!!!
3 more sleeps and we,l be on our way
to the simmo
All you lucky beggers have a great time and stay safe out on the tracks and the black top.

Roofy I'd be jealous if I wasn't heading up there during the week! Had my car at the mechanic today and he did brake and clutch fluid, new Superior engine mounts and new door hinges.
The engine mounts really vibrate while you are stationary and idling but no difference when driving... Better than breaking mounts every 6 months.
