this is the crab my dear daughter caughtat the 40mile campsite just south of Karratha..Yes i got outfished..
heaps of redfin down my way, every now and then you get a 4/5 pounder. The Warren river produces heaps of them and they get trapped in pools when the river dries up a bit
sth west WA,Warren river .Beautiful part of the world if you ask me but i'm a little bit bias..
Out fished by your daughter Priceless. Nice muddies,
never had one myself on the Bucket list
Not allowed to return Redfin to the water here , how about WA??
nah not allowed here but i wouldn't either too nice to eat excatly.
taking 4 fishing rods to cape york 2 surf rods and 2 short spinning rods, but how to carry them up there with out breaking them and with out having them in my way also need to be able to access them quickly if an oppertunity arises to have a quick fish. what to do? got an idea from one of torques 4x4 clients who had the small rods fitted to the front of the lad barrier in behind the back seats. so with idea in mind it was of to Charlton fishing at red bank and we hit the jack pot with a set of Berkly lock ring road holders which are now fitted to the front of my load barrier behind the back seat and yes i have included some pictures of how it all looks now it is fitted. tomorrow it is off to masters to buy some PVC and then clark rubber to build a set rod tubes for the roof rack will p[ost up photos after they are done
Buy a "decent" telescopic rod with a bit of guts to it, what ever your thinking fish wise double it.
We took Black Queens, {joke} ended up in Jack Erksines in Cairnes and brought some 6" lures on Snapper style rods.
The theory back then was catch a 10lb fish use 20lb line, Agree I want a feed not a fight with possibilty of losing it.
Have a nice big lure ready to flick every river crossing ,you'll be eating fish every night, Dont forget to go crabbing too,
MMMMMMMmmmm crabs, Caught a 700mm Barra on the Wenloc on the way up southside down stream 100mtr,
@ hekarewe that rod way to light IMO
could always store rods in anysize pvc with either a screw cap or just push on end cap.

that rod that you say is 2 light 3d takes an egg beeter reel with 5kg line being as it is a spining rod for bushy creeks and places with a lots growth on the banks it is plenty big enough i have 2kg trout in the blue mountians with it as well as using it in estrays to land tailer and even a shark on it but then agian it does take finesse to land big fish on light gear guess maybe i am more of a sport fisherman then a thug fisherman last place i used fishing line bigger then 20kg was growning up in PNG but over there fish actually got to grow to a decent size.
You know what to expect then , had to retreive snagged lure on Wenloc, chest deep in water a bull shark head floated by,
I was bulletproof back then lol
Taking my leading hand out fishing tomorrow, he rang me up earlier tonight asking if I was going fishing tomorrow morning and if he could come with me if I was, which is very surprising to me. So I said yes, (suck I know) he wants to throw around the soft plastics, so I'll take him to where I've been getting all my flatties lately, ( the last load of flatties)
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...013/05/134.jpgas I'm pretty sure he'll pick up a fish on the plastics there, although I've never tried there, always using fresh bait and fresh flatties fillets.
Won't be going till later in the morning say 9am by the time we get to the water, as I need to drop the car off at Western 4x4 (ARB) to get my Long Ranger sub tank installed.
Got 22 flathead and a small gummy shark, had a really good day with my mate Stretch. Good fishing and great conversation.
Would be like a sheet of glass out on the bay lately eh ??
Was thinking of going to Bearii on the the Murray for a cray fish but found out I can't fish for Crays past the Newell hwy Tocumwal. Not happy, oh well, should still get fish.
When you going as Bob will be Strathmerton way from tomorrow on
The new regulatory arrangements include:
Prohibiting the take of Murray crayfish in all NSW waters except in the Murrumbidgee River between the Hume Highway road bridge at Gundagai and Berembed Weir, near Ganmain, and in the Murray River between 130 metres downstream of the Hume Weir, near Albury and the Newell Highway road bridge at Tocumwal.
Changing the opening of the fishing season from 1 May to 1 June to protect pre- spawning females.
Increasing the minimum size limit (from the rear of the eye socket to the centre rear of the carapace) from Murray crayfish from 9 cm to 10 cm and introducing a maximum size limit of 12 cm, to ensure all females reach sexual maturity and that very large crayfish can continue within the population.
Reducing the daily bag limit for Murray crayfish from 5 to 2 and the possession limit from 10 to 4.
http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/aboutus/ne...crayfish-rules
The taking of crayfish is banned now in all waters other than the two areas you mentioned.
I too was confused with the wording so I rang the NSW.DPI to find out exactly what it says and they confirmed that on the Murray cray fishing is only between Hume weir and Newell hwy Tocumwal.
This is what I found.
Cannot be taken in any waters at any time other than between June and August (inclusive) in the following specified waters
(a) Murrumbidgee River between the Hume Highway road bridge, Gundagai and 100m upstream of the weir face at Berembed Weir near Ganmain
(b) Murray River from 130 below Hume Weir near Albury to the Newell Highway road bridge at Tocumwal
My mates went up a few weeks ago and reckon its a half an hour down the dirt tracks to get to the spot, so only god knows where they're taken me.
Beer eye and 22 k south is way eye. go figure
And after too many drinks you're pie eyed lol
maybe going towards Picola IMO.

Could it be, is it possible that Bob and Mego have returned empty handed.
Only Gaddy's daughter produced the goods, on that Gaddy are they blue swimmer
or red claw. not familiar with interstate terms
Nah, I'm back last night and funeral today.
Threedogs , the front ones are blue swimmers or as we up here say sandies. Total count for the weekend was 6 sandies ,4 muddies , 1 ctn gold , a 2 bottles moscato and a bottle of bundy , and a good time had by all
Steve
@ Mego never a good time, we'll talk later,
@ Gaddy Thanks seems there are more choices the further Nth you go.
Went to Bearii for the weekend and had a great time.
We got two keeper cod on the first night only.
One 63cm and one 68cm put them in the keeper net over night as we got them after midnight and it was f.....ing cold.
Went to the keeper net (which my mate bought brand new just for this trip) the next morning to take photos, lift the net out of the water and no cod. But a great big hole had been torn in the net. Very upset.
Got 9-10 carp, one big one, rest pretty small.
We came on river track where the old rickety bridge is and maybe a kilometre in turned right on a track with a big stump, which took us to the camp spot.
Very nice spot they selected.
Deep water straight off the bank.
Step in the water and its 1.5-2metres deep.
We caught 4 Crays on the rods, which we let go.
So much timber we went through, literally a trailer load every day.
Couldn't get any reception whatsoever.
Sorry boys no pics.
So its a big lie with no Pics, lol Can you if possible put a pic of the cray you caught in the Murray please
The crays we get in the Goulborne are big black and white units big claws not much of a tail, but oh so juicy
BIL got some that were brown like a really big yabby with sawtooth edge on their shell.
I didn't get pics this year, as we're not allowed to keep them where we were, so they were immediately released.
We got these last year. Attachment 30184Attachment 30185Attachment 30186Attachment 30187
