Hi all.
Just to put it out there.... I'll be at the Boyup Brook Country Music Festival this weekend and entering my 4wd in the Ute and Truck Muster comp. If you're down that way, feel free to call in and say "Hi". http://www.countrymusicwa.com.au/ute-and-truck-muster
My 4wd is progressing well, towards a trophy. lol. Driver's seat has been re-foamed and re-covered, and should be ready by lunch time today. Gotta burn a bit of midnight oil over the next few nights, but it'll be worth it.
Pics will definitely be posted, shortly. lol.
Take care out there.
Rossco
Rossco have fun with that a lot of competition with this have big arials
lots of flags and you're on a winner good luck
@Lights
I’m so happy with the lights, ‘lights’ has provided. The top light bar (200w) is operational, but the bottom light bar (320w) is fitted but not yet wired up. Hoping to have it done this week, but running out of time.

My new driver’s seat. Passenger seat is currently a ‘work in progress’. It will be ready in a day or so.

I’m so buggered after a short change over, this is the best I can do for tonight.
Take care out there.
Rossco
Nearly there. Lol.
Tomorrow……engine degrease, door pockets fixed and light bar being wired up. Few more things to do, but pointless until stuff tomorrow gets done. More aerials to put on, and a couple of other surprises. Next update is after the show.

Well, good news. DX grunt won 'Peoples Choice' at the Boyup Brook Country Music
Festival, truck and ute comp! Prize was 3 polo shirts, a Festival Flag and a cooler thermos. I'd love a NP flag for the parade. Will talk later, AB. Lol
👏👏👏........
Nice one Grunter
So how many entrants were there?
Introducing….. DX grunt …..in the flesh, at the Boyup Brook Country Music Festival, Truck and Ute muster competition, 2017

Had the board made up on an ‘A’ frame with same info on both sides. Gotta change it already coz I forgot to add one or two things – and my typo. Lol.

On this occasion, I left my swag at home. The wife is a seamstress and whipped this up a day or so before the event.

And, the proof is in the pudding. Lol. I won the ‘People’s Choice’ section of the competition.

It took a while to get the rig up to scratch and I had started driving about 200ks just before dark. I nearly cried when I saw all the bugs, but a quick touch up in the morning after driving another 200ks made a big difference. Lol.
Take care out there.
Rossco
Not sure. Everybody, including competitors and people walking past or looking at individual utes, had one vote and chucked their nomination into a plastic tub, and the judges sorted it out.
I heard somebody comment that were about 50-60 more utes than last year. It was very hot, too!
loving those seats right up there with Mego's IMO
Thanks, 3d.
Cost me about $1800. I didn't want the head rests done, but the guy that did it is excellent at his trade and couldn't handle it, so he chucked them in for nothing. lol. He costed them at about 130 ins of labour. Licensed as a 3 seater, but the passenger seat had extra foam put in it around the shoulder blades and right cheek, to make it more comfortable for the passenger closest to the door. IMO, the '3rd' seat is only big enough for a small child.
Yeah had one of those 1.5 seats in the troopy, as soon as I had some $$$$$
I fitted 2 bucket seats.
Have you thought doing the two bucket conversion and centre console like others have done.
or does this set up suit what you do ??
Will the door cards be similar that would look awesomer, [new word] lol
Have thought about it, but that's it. I got 2 x Recaro seats quoted from brand new and was quoted $5,000 for 2 seats. Can't remember if that included going over the pits and a new compliance plate fitted, coz I'm going from a 3 seater to a 2 seater.
My travelling style has changed considerably since my wife has stuffed her back. I drove 800k's on the weekend, and she was on pain killers all the way there and back. She reckons it's all the vibration from my vehicle. Mind you, I was fully loaded and had the back tyres at 46 psi and the front at 42. I had 180lts of fuel and 130 litres of water and the rest of the stuff I carry.
Basically, if we want to go camping, we have to take 2 vehicles. Off road is out of the question for her, so the past 2 years, I've been doing a lot of solo stuff, which is hurting our relationship and fun.
I've got a roof console with storage and apart from that, I don't like stuff unrestrained in the front, so it normally goes in the back.
I fitted my Strato seat for one day and ripped it out.
Then I re fitted it some months later with some conveyor
belting to insulate the seat from the floor made a heap of difference.
Might be worth a go worked for me took out 99% of road vibration
IMO. I can sympathize with your wife not good having a crook back eh.?
G`Day Mr Grunt.
Great stuff mate, well done. Just a thought on the seat , you might want to look at an air ride seat as fitted to a lot of trucks.
Fun at first until you get use to them, but vibration free, soft ride, and comfortable. I think you can get them with drop down arm rest s as well.
Find a truckie with one and try it out .
You and truckies , well that might be a problem LMTO.
Good luck mate ,see you in the stick some time.
I think the seat you refer to is called a suspension seat Strato do one for $2500 NOT fitted.
If its workcover or similar you may be able to get one for free,
ET just had one fitted to his Patrol.
I did have a KAB 603 seat fitted but more suited to a back hoe than a 4x4.
Rosscoe your local TJM or ARB may have one in the showroom to try.
But its an expensive seat thats for sure.
Well, on the eve of the first birthday of reintroducing the new and improved, DX grunt ..... in the flesh, I've gone through all the pics, again, and thought to myself.....I love it, and, man, have I spent some coin on it! lol. That's the beauty of being a desk jock and paying for everything. lol
Who would have thought pics of my ute cracked over 107k views. lol.
Take care out there.
Rossco
its a well set up unit DX you should be very proud of what you have done.
everything has a purpose, everything works whats not to like, I love it
and not too heavy either, well jury might be out on that one.lol lol
Ross,
When you get a chance, could you take a pic for me of your gearstick (+surrounding area), and the area between the seats. Mine has had a ST centre box thingy put in and i'm trying to work out what it looked like beforehand.
Cheers
Badger
I take it you havent had a chance to weigh the the rosscomobile yet ??
This is what my DX looked like before I fitted the ST seats & centre console. The second pic shows the DX style handbrake which is a little different to the centre console version.

Attachment 72161
The ‘ring’ which holds the base of the gearshift rubber boot on is also slightly different between the two models. The centre console version has an extra hole to mount the console to. Not an issue if you are changing to DX style though.

Cheers Cuppa. That also explains why the passenger has that stupid floppy seatbelt clasp...
When I had my seats re-done, the passenger seat was foamed up to become a 'bucket seat' . It's licensed as a 3 seater, but really..... unless the passenger sitting next to the gear seat is small in stature, it's near on impossible to fit 3 burley blokes - like me - into my ute. lol.
Just waiting for @Lights to get back to me and it looks like I'm gunna upgrade my Aurora 40 inch to the Extreme 40 inch.
I'm so scared of the dark. lo.
Rossco mate, is the 'Extreme' version the one @MudRunnerTD has on his tourer? (Vertical pointing LED's off 90 degree reflectors) they were friggin awesome dead set mate!!
Not sure, but I'm guessing so. Lights is his mate, I think. @mudrunner
I'm really impressed with my 37" Extreme, so I'm seriously looking into changing my 40" Aurora.
I've PM'd lights and just need to know the total length. I need to know whether my current Aurora bracket will be big enough or too big for the Extreme 40".
Beast mode!!
I have done a fair bit of driving at night the last couple of weeks and the Extreme Light is awesome. I have to say though the 50w HID Lightforce XGT are a bonus down the middle. Really pleased with the total output.
Crazy though that you can get soooo used to the output that it's not enough! More! We want more please! Can I have some more please sir?
