Merely standard dusk practice close to warmer than atmospheric H20 Winstar [emoji120]
Please DO warn little loved ones that the Vampires are still active 24/7 within Dalhousie’s cool Masonary Dunny/Shower block….environment [emoji51][emoji736][emoji2957]

Received my parks booklet today 👌
Just some little bits of info that I hope may be useful (just came back from double crossing)
- Flies - there are a lot and repellants only seem to work for about 30 minutes at best
- Few mozzies at Delhousie but not near as bad as some led us to expect
- Madigan is badly chopped up, and not just the dunes. The dunes are so bad that you cannot get up much momentum, just violent lurching from side to side. Need low pressures and just walk up them.
- Make sure everything is well packed so things will not get damaged or broken
- If your seat belt rubs your shoulder or neck consider one of those lambswool socks for some protection
- A couple of dunes are REAL soft
- Sand flag masts tend to unscrew at the joins. A wrap of tape around the joint works.
- Keep traction control OFF - forgot a couple of times and needed to have another go.
- No matter what path you chose on a corrugated road, another path will always look better.
I used 106 litres Birdsville to Mt Dare 596k (French Line & Rig Rd), 136 litres Finke to Birdsville 821k (Grandpa spec GU wagon).
I do love the corrugated comment lol
You spend half your time chasing the “better” line.

Flies were defintely a thing before dark, dont remember mozzies though. that Rosewood cream worked a rippa.
@MB i might grab one of those bags if you still have a spate mate, my Redback has some splits in it, trying to get my shit together for 2 spare tyres off the Raslarr rear bar in time. My List is Very Very Very Very Long.
We set off fairly early to avoid the worst of the flies and kept going until beer-o'clock for the same reason. They are only around during daylight. Daytime stops we just wore fly veils. Just remember to NOT spit while wearing your veil, although you can suck on a tinnie with a little care.
And the mozzies were definitely not a problem - just a few at Delhousie and they will get fewer as the temps drop further.
Regardless, you will definitely enjoy your trip.
Now comes the arduous task of trying to get rid of the dust out of the vehicle - it's everywhere!!
On our Simpson trip last year we also found the mozzies not so bad at Dalhousie but the time before they were the worst I had seen. Fly nets are a must, take spares incase you misplace them.
Flies are annoying, vampires spread their love [emoji3059] Stay Safe [emoji3590][emoji3590]

Don’t forget to bring a bag of firewood please for Dalhousie and the 3 nights across the simpson, there will be nothing available north of port Augusta and I don’t know if we can get any there but imagine we can. I’ll bring my firepit and also some heat beads as they work well with a few lumps of wood
Haven’t read my Booklet yet Stroppstar but unfortunately don’t remember us being allowed or not a fire at Dalhousie on a Covid days work trip [emoji51]
We certainly didn’t have one at camp, poor memory but think the voluntary caretakers there said no way IIRC [emoji22]

Dr Google says fires ok at Dalhousie outside of Nov to March due to fire hazard and must in permanent fire pits
Spent the day cooking and vacuum packing meals, just finished the chicken kofta and also a slow cooked stew to be vacuum packed tomorrow when it cools down, on the home run now 😁
How are we all tracking peeps.
Been lucky enough to snag the old man's CFX75DZ fridge freezer for this trip.
Need to make surround to keep everything free.
Also making a few last minute mods to the draws.
Removing some material from the floor.
No need for it to be 1 full piece.
37 days to go!!https://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/foru...2024/05/48.jpghttps://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/foru...2024/05/49.jpg

ETA on the rear bar is 16th June. Hopefully painted the next day and then off for fitment. Mechanically I'm done, just go over a few things as it gets closer. Make sure everything is tight. Going to start vacuum sealing dinners this week and look at some of the smaller things, repellent, new thermals, camp chairs and storage boxes (due to the cargo barrier) need a couple smaller ones.
Still trying to get a new rack and awning before the trip, but we'll see how that goes.
Super excited and a bit nervous, we both are..

Somewhat testing the other Aii McForum spiced ham here tonight. [emoji51] Stress less Johnstar & Misso, we are not travelling to the ends of the McEarth. Plenty of support across this Forum and Travelling upwards together too [emoji736][emoji736][emoji3590][emoji3590]

Looks like the Simpson Desert Recovery Service is up and running, this might interest some on this trip:

Not on Faceache personally, thankfully, but I do recall when a heap of GQ Geelongish Youngens mouthed off about a simple Sunday drive up Ellis Track [emoji23] Poor Buggers got slammed with tickets/rebuild projects by awaiting compliance officers [emoji51]

A great point @MB [emoji23]
The reason I decided to finally join this great Forum…circa 2015 was when I was in trouble on a highway with elecy fan/overheating issues [emoji51]
One phonecall to @AB and within minutes he did do a Forum assistance call here. I was kindly redirected, via phone, to a Legendary member then nearby in Shepparton to clear his auto electrical shop schedule to keep me & my then 6YO Baby Daughter rolling in 40C summer heat[emoji120][emoji120][emoji3590][emoji3590]
Let’s see if FaceFark can ever achieve Old School Camaraderie [emoji123][emoji123][emoji3590][emoji3590]

That’s it, I’m off and rolling reminiscing of NP.com.au Forum assistant packages for many others too IIRC [emoji736][emoji736][emoji3590]
Satellite [emoji341] phones have definitely been utilised in my presence by members to contact Old School Guru members across Australia [emoji1037] to assist their own vehicle failures during Adventures.
Cannot imagine any of us/them could have connected/formed friendships as truly honourable through FaceBuck? [emoji848]

Just got a message from Garmin to say they will no longer allow posting to fb or twitter from their devices, that’s shit as that is how I was keeping in contact with my emergency contacts when travelling on m6 own, no explanation just as of July 1st 😡

I froze my pasta so I’ll see how it goes, rice I’m just getting the cooked packet rice you reheat, I’ve got spaghetti bog and chilli con carn, rissoles, sausages, chicken kofta and stew cryovaced and packets of Deb instant mashed potatoes and frozen veg, I can reheat everything in hot water and then do the Deb mashed potatoes with the hot water and also use the rest of the water to wash the forks and burn the paper plates, if the pasta is no good then I’ll just Chuck it out 🤷*♂️
