Lol... Funny f*****. I thought the same thing. Until I read back a few posts,,,,,
Also adding to recent chats.... Like Mudski My door is always there and open!!! PM or call us anytime and drop in. My fridge is full !! Especiallly now for the crazy season.
@mudski
Was up your way before to the new Adventure Park down the road from you and nearly stepped on the biggest Tiger I've ever seen in my life. Fkn hell was I lucky... Could have been one of 60 kids that were at the park at the time.
@mudski can I apply for an exemption to the ‘no nudie swimming ‘ rule ?
SCA sales so I picked up some Treds for $160 and a couple of 2 watt hand held UHF's. Free delivery was an added bonus.
I picked up 2 off 200w solar panels today, delivered, for $85 each! They are the same size as my 60W Canons. Could not pass them up.
ie: 0.42 CENTS/WATT, that is a good price there Phil. Just goes to show how costs have come down so much over the yrs, quality aside.
I Have been generating my own electricity since 1991 (stand alone) and I started of with qty 36 x 75w BP 275 solar panels @ $650 each which was $8.66/watt (20 times the cost of yours). I am still running 20 of these BP panels and after 27 yrs they remain to perform near to new spec. Also run 24 x HIT 205watt panels (Sanyo) , all arrays on trackers situated 200m from battery bank.
Yes, the price was stupid cheap, they have a good warranty and look pretty good, plus they are almost the identical size to the canons that I purchased 20 yrs ago and have been on the truck almost from day 1. I will be interested to see how they perform in cloudy days etc as this is where the canons shine I recokon. The canons are still putting out their nameplate current after all this time, but you need to keep the panels clean/dust/dirt free. for max efficiency.
Mine need a wash down, they don't get carted around the bush.
Have a few left overs, "ready use spares" in the shed, a couple on a conduit frame (portable) for the van (converted) over from 3 way fridge to Engel and fitted a battery/switching to go between either truck aux and / or van (in parallel) sealed LA.
One day might make up fwd sliding rack/frame for a panel to fit under roof rack mesh base, slide fwd when stationary to charge and also act as shade over windscreen.
Daughters boyfried built a beaut rooftop slide using slide rails from Bunnings and it slides 2 off cannon panels right out the side of the vehicle, and he can brace it for windy conditions - he did a great job - am thinking about that myself.
Yes Phil installing modules underneath roof rack / mesh is a great concept . Provides unimpeded access to rack for stowage on top, provides tropical type roof shade/cooling, plenty of air circulation to back of the panel and provides protection to the module glass face in transit.
Side mount would be a good double up as awning type shelter. If slid fwd over bonnet, apart from shade effect (front glass), it could be secured/stabilized with drop struts to bull bar to provide support against effects of windage and other loads (eg: rain/snow).
We scored off Gumtree a new AMB Twin Compressor, should run the Air-Lockers on the old GQ ute no sweat [emoji106][emoji106]

Big day of spending today.
Picked this up cheap on Gumtree.
Brand new still in the wrapping.

Picked up my new home. Wasn't sure whether to put it in this thread or the 'what made you happy' thread.

Bought another Quicktifier 420 external rectifier kit for my second alternator. This adds another 12 diodes to the standard alternator and improves efficiency and duty cycle. I have been running one for the last couple of years with great success. Highly recommended.

A new Enerdrive DCDC charger for the LifePo4 battery I have. I've been using a redarc BCDC1225-Lv for the past 5 years, it's done the job ok, but is too slow to charge and doesn't have a lithium profile. The redarc also meant I had to use the shitty changeover relay setup that the older redarc models used for solar.

Too much now to lie about the cost to her indoors :)
Tropical roof is a great idea Land rover did it years ago,
my first camper I made had a false roof by using my solar panels
cool as inside even in the blazing sun
when the price comes down on lithion batteries Ill buy one as well
but cant see it happening in the near future, $2000 for a battery is
a tad much if you only use it say 6 times a year
@threedogs yes do remember the LR tropical roof. Have done the cork tile roof and side thing and of course very familiar with the internal drips from condensation off metal roof inside sleeping.
Batteries have improved a little over the last 20 or so yrs but lagging well behind for storage in independent pwr sys and remain expensive. Have been off grid now for 30yrs and still use FLA batteries, interesting the first PV modules I bought(1990) and still using some today were Australian made BP275 (75watts) @ $650 each '90.
My fishing trips (high country) usually away 2 night(generally stay put), only demand is Engel 40lt and LED light strip so manage well with deep cycle nom 100Ah Lead Acid battery in eng bay - no PVs.
Super Cheap have 40% - 60% off store wide
good chance to get some oil and filters for
future services
What did I buy today? I bought lunch. lol
