Bought a shit box 95 Toyota Corolla the other day for 500 bucks, guy done a back yard job re spray but its only got 134k on the clock and the inside is immaculate :)

Went 2 the mechanic this arvo because said shit box was making a metal 2 metal noise which I though might be brake related.... sure enough put it up on the hoist and said the noise was the brake wear indicator and I needed new brakes...... Asked him how much did I owe him and he said not 2 worry about it :)

I had one of those and gave it a caning. Great little car, only ever went wrong when wife drove it for weeks with no oil.
