Think my turbo is shot (08 GU CRD), a squeal noise like fan hitting metal cowling has come on suddenly.
Run max boost around 21psi, Good spool. Good EGTs (ecu remap). Can stop noise on fly by slowing spool (open needle from 0.6 to 2 turns).
Thought possible a leak on the boost side or turbo. After ruling out boost ducting and hoses, I removed the air inlet ducting at turbo flanged alloy elbow, and with the engine revs @ constant 1200 RPM with needle valve closed (no boost measured), picked up a constant metallic squeal noise coming from inside the inlet throat of the turbo (opened needle 1.6 turns noise stopped)?
Going out to remove elbow off turbo inlet see what's the go (wear). Not happy

Thanks Hodge, for comment. My EGR plate fitted at exhaust manifold. Just got the alloy elbow off the turbo inlet side, so cramped up in there (top bolt / block side) what a stuff around.Quote:
