I was planning to run one under the car, any downside to that? It will be under water and mud quite often I would imagine.
On another note, I had my worst day offroading ever yesterday. It all started out as an invite to come and "have a little look" at a 4wd track, soon turned into a 16 hour battle. One hill took us from about 4pm until 3am to winch up 2 vehicles, spent another hour or so trying to pull a 100 series up a road that took the patrol about 4 mins to cover and about 10 mins to reverse all the way back to where the 100 series got stuck, only to clean up the left hand side of the patrol in some trees that I got pulled into from trying to help the 100 series. The patrol is only running on LPG at the moment and the empty light had been on for a good 3 hours at this point, so I left the 100 series to go get some more fuel before we were both stuck a couple of hours walk from a main road, only to slide down a clay slope head on to a massive mound on the drivers front. Tried to winch over it but would have rolled it, so I had to dig this bonnet mound down to a drive able mound in complete darkness with only an axe as my shovel was in the 100 series. I say complete darkness because the patrol was almost out of fuel and the battery was stuffed from winching for 11 hours straight, our phones were going flat so we used them for light only when needed. After probably 2 hours I had managed to dig the mound down to a non tipping hight and got the patrol out of there, made it to the main road and she ran out of fuel.
Called RACT for a flat bed, had to wait over an hour in the cold and we were wet, exhausted, hungry, parched. Finally the tow truck arrived at 6:30am... rescued! Finally a nice warm truck to sit in. In this time the 100 series had managed to get unstuck and make its own way out, only to drive right past us and keep on driving, this happened before the tow truck got there, think its fair to say if I ever see that guy ever again I'll punch him in the face. After all we did to help him, the damage done to the patrol (pics up soon), the $140 worth of fuel, the hours of pain, cold and hunger we suffered because he wanted to have a look at a track and the CU^T just drives on by... Some friend ay?
So what causes the steering wheel to shake at 70km/h - 85km/h? This started the first time I got to 70 after the adventure. When we slid down the hill into the mound, the front diff was driven deep into the clay with clay mounding up around the steering damper, could have I bent it?

The wheel wobble would be worse with wheels full of clay.
But their are a million threads on front end wobble.

Ahhh no good Matt. What a sh!t trip. It started off sounding like a 4wd action dvd lol (swap 100 series for milo).
Not saying that where you went wasnt hard (i believe your story) but how much have you been offroad? That is a well setup rig, it should take A LOT to stop it!
Maybe start looking at some bar work? lol! A bullbar that hoops over the indicators helps a lot for side damage (unless your going backwards).
Bar it up and then you can ram that 100 series next time you see him!!
I hope it all gets sorted out quick:)

sounds like a day you rather forget .make sure you get your shovel back first. then hit him over the head with it for driving off.

Yeah my tyres were letting me down big time, they only have about 3-4mm of tread left. And it was thick slippery clay shiz all day, not the best place for near bald tyres. The 100 series has new 33" muddies and had heaps more grip than me, still didn't stop him getting stuck on every little rock or bottoming out every 10m. I wish I had an inclinometer to see how steep the big hill was. I have a few straps of his and a shackle or two also, I think we will be meeting up to swap our stuff back and going our separate ways.

Wow! Very hard night.
Next time put handycam on dash panel or take a operator, then make a horror or thriller and sell it with name "MudSlut dark night in mud"

Yeah that damn clay can be a nightmare!! Where abouts was it?
-
Yeah I have a GoPro but have no idea where it is :(
The track was off Railton Rd, at that recycling plant or whatever it is. There are heaps of tracks out there. I'll never turn off at the blue markers again.
